Hillclimb/AutoX pictars

Just about ANYONE can find SOMETHING they'll like at this event. 427 Cobra Replicas, Cressida with an RB swap (i think), Classic Sprites and Healeys, a 97 Miata with a brand new LS3 swapped, some 911's, bunch of turbo'd modern coupes/hatches, a 69 Camaro (Over 400hp) and a Chevelle SS on stickey AutoX rubber, a new Saleen 281SC, an Elise, ETC.

This was a new event for me, a combined Autocross and Hillclimb event put on by the local Austin-Healey car club. Since they will not fill it with just their cars, they have limited availability for race and modern cars. The course is a small autocross at the bottom of a ski hill that spits you out around ski ticket boots and up the hill.

The Hillclimb section is VERY dangerous, maybe 1/3 has guardrail, and some of that guardrail is parallel to the road due to erosion. 50+ foot ravine on the outside edge, and undulating pavement. I got over 70, IIRC the 1969 Camaro guy said he hit 80.

I was also on DSLR duty as a member of MAC didn't want to be leaving his camera sitting around. So I just spent the day honing my panning and zoom ability, walked away happy with my results.

FTD was a guy from the MN AutoX scene in a supercharged and tightened up Miata, he did the autox course ass backwards his first run, then KILLED everyone. At the end of the day no one was within a second of his 54 second run.

Cobalt SS guys made a video with 2 GoPro's: http://vimeo.com/14157069

I don't think I'd have the balls to run flat-out in that hillclimb section... at least in the beginning.

I should post up my autoX vids from last weekend.

Don't hold it in, say what you feel.

Ya I'd be doing 35 in the hill climb, the more I watch them the more I realize how easy it would be to die.

Bought my spot from one of them.. Never met the kid in my life, but he found me out at the event! But yeah, they were the only ones out there with any sort of "better than you/we're fucking awesome" complex going on. Even the Cobalt SS guys were nice!

About that hill, I only took the hill flat out on my final run, just didn't feel the need to keep the foot in it through the big turn until the end of the day. At which point I coned away my AutoX section making my heroic (suicidal) WOT run pointless. My new 245 Kuhmo X/S totally impressed me however. Significant improvement over the 225 Star Specs I ran the last 2 years.

Didn't realize just how steep it was, until we did the final drive out to the hilltop chalet for the end of day ceremony.

Awesome. Number 181 was the FTD car, right? I love that thing. It sounds sick, and the way it squats and gets out of the hole is ridiculous.
I ran the hillclimb in 2008, but I prefer the Amery speed run since I don't need to be scared shitless running the car near the limit. Tom's events always bring in some really interesting cars.
