You'll have to buy a "MultiMedia Center" for those. Mind you though, only the high-end ones support the h.264 codec/mkv files. You'll be looking at $350/400 minimum.

Asus EB1012. Atom. Ion. HDMI. WiFi. Silent. 35W. Cheap.

Not getting a console before they can dual task as HTPC without issues. So far I'm playing EVE and minecraft on my Eee. If i could find some CUDA accelerated emulators and a retro bluetooth controller I'd pee a little.

Don't transcode, I just remux all my MKV to MP4 using GotSent. Takes 15 minutes and everything is natively supported afterwards.

I have both consoles... so whatever works best i'm interested in learning about. Thanks,

if you have a PS3 then you don't need to convert to .mkv... the PS3 can play .avi and mpeg, mpeg4, mp4. also, if your PS3 and computer are on the same network then you can just stream the videos from your PC/laptop to your PS3

It should be possible in the near future with a jtag xbox. But I doubt your xbox is a jtag and this probably won't be out for a while.

I've read somewhere that new flash 2.0 should make it possible, but on the other hand I've heard the same shit again and again

Tversity is garbage, and reencoding is just too much work. Let ps3mediaserver do it on the fly.

Problem with playing MKV's is that fast forwarding in them or skipping sucks balls.

Start downloading HDWMV's that play perfectly with no transcoding needed what so ever. All you need to do is host the files with a media server like tversity.

There isn't any buffering and they have them in 1080p and even works with DD 5.1.

It's all I played when I had my 360 and wanted to watch movies in good quality and surround sound.

It doesn't always transcode correctly, and I'd much rather take the 2 minutes to remux (not encode) that mkv into a native mp4 than allow on-the-fly transcoding. Granted, I end up doing this like once or twice a month, if that.
