First bike was a 1973 Honda CB 350 Four. Bought it a few years ago in non-running condition. As I got it running better it would go a little faster. Definitely no speed demon but it is fun and I get tons of comments from random strangers.

I'll play.

I made friends with the new guy at work this year; he's into motorcycling, and suggested that I give it a try. I took the MSF course back in April, jumped through the hoops to get an M endorsement on my driver's license, and after selling my MR2, I bought this 2006 Ninja 250R at the end of May.



I took that photo while I was out on a ride two or three weeks ago. Since may, I've logged about 1500 miles on it. I feel like I'm improving slowly, although something about the 250 doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence. It may be the tires, or it's light weight, I'm not sure.

About a month ago, though, I happened upon this 500R at a local dealer, and just had to have it, as it fixes the two major grips I have about the 250. Namely, that you have to wring the heck out of the 250 to get it moving at all, and that it feels very bouncy, despite the forks and shocks being apparently fine.



I had been crash free on the 250 and thought I was doing well, but it only took me about a hundred miles to crash the 500. It wasn't even a good story; I made a noob mistake, and underestimated how slick a patch of gravel would be as I turned off of an FM road. The bike fell out from under me and tossed me on my ass about 10 mph. The bike was injured worse than I was. You can see the little grey spot on the fairing where it got scraped up, and the other scrape on the water pump housing. Also damaged were the right-hand handlebar, and the rear brake pedal, seen here:



The left-hand bar was bent already somehow. Probably by the previous owner. Despite the damage, I managed to pick the bike up (with great difficulty - shit is heavy), and ride it the 20 or so miles home.

The extend of my injuries was a bruise on my right hip, and a scrape on my right elbow inflicted by the inside of my jacket. My helmet never even touched the ground, but I was wearing full gear, including a pair of overpants at the time. Without them, I'd have been in MUCH worse shape.

Lesson learned: Beware of sudden changes in traction, especially while turning.

I fucking finally got the last of the parts I needed to fix the 500 today, so I bolted her back together and went for a short ride. Everything seems to be fine now, and I'm looking forward to the weekend and getting in some real miles on it.

All in how u use it. Mine had brand new PR2's and would handle incredibly well for a 470lb pig. But I am a carb sync-nazi.

Edit: not to mention my investment in these 2 katanas vs. What I got out of them. I made out pretty well. If you know what you're doing, its a no-brainer

They're around if ya look hard enough. Usually find a decent one on CL for around $3 - 5K, depending on quality. Ppl ask too much for them, and you'll always fond someone parting 1 or 2 of them out on Egay for a mint. Most of the motor is no different than te older magnas and sabres, so you'll be able to get some of the parts for cheap. It's the 'unique' parts for this bike is where you might get your wallet raped.

And, as RP says, the sound this W-4 bike puts out with it's quad-exhaust is

Got rid of the SV650, and picked this up, and have been working on her for the past month or so...



1992 ZX7-R Ninja "Scott Russell" edition with FCR-39 flatside carbs, oversized valves, timed cams, billet vacuum block-off plates, and titanium headers (Oh,...and a LeoVince SBK 'shorty' muffler, but with stock steel midpipe )
