If you can get enough aid to cover tuition and fees every quarter, then you can easily take care of yourself month to month - even if it does mean sharing a room and giving up some of the finer things in life. Can't afford all of your textbooks? Go to the damn library - I do. Can't afford a car? Take the damn bus - I do. Your incessant complaining about how unfair things are only reflects your unwillingness to expend effort to gain something; you are extremely arrogant and you possess a horridly misplaced sense of entitlement. Ergo you are no better than the "rich kids" you malign for what are essentially the same reasons. Why not spend your time doing something that'll ameliorate your situation? Oh, but that would require you to actually do some work. Heaven forbid.

Higher education is a commitment to the future - give a little now to get a lot later on. Nobody said it was going to be comfortable, and if you feel like you shouldn't have to put forth a substantial amount of effort to pay for school because it "isn't fair," I don't know what good whatever degree it is you seek is really going to do you.

Pity party for Doomsayer!
You fucking retard, I DO have a job. I work at Circuit City for a measly $7.50 an hour. How will that help me in university? Secondly, I won't need a car etc. if I live on campus, so that's some money saved. Third, a university student living alone doesn't need financial aid if they can afford to live by themselves. I am trying to NOT have a burden on my shoulders, like I said, when I get out of university. Oh and also, my incessant complaining? I just started a topic, then got a little involved... incessant? Please stop using words you don't know the meaning of. Seems to me you're just bitter about your own situation and feel as though others shouldn't even TRY to be better off...

The highest I can make is for tutoring Lab sciences, which is 8/hour. That is the most I can make tutoring.
Correction, the university's rate for student tutors in the lab is $8/hr. By comparison, the university's rate to work part-time folding chairs at the convention center is $10/hr. You can pimp yourself out as a private tutor and charge $15-20.

Would you say "the highest you can make as a chef is $12K" because that's what the university cafeteria pays?

At my LOCAL and i mean LOCAL IN DISTRICT university of texas school, it rounds out costing about 7k a year. They happen to have a shitty biology program, so at the very least im going out of district, which will run at least 10-20k a year in state. Out of state will cost from 15-30 a year.
People come here FROM AFRICA and manage to make ends meet. I'm all for keeping tuition down, but spare me the violin music.

Transfer to aTm, they've got a killer bio program.

Of course, even the 2%-ers will look down on you coming from a UT school, but you'll live

And if you've done well, they might even offer you aid to go there. My sis-in-law went there with a 4.0 and nearly got a full ride for her last two years. (if you go there, no hitting on my sis-in-law. Her dad would kill us both if she came home with a comm...err...socialist like you and then found out I knew you )

It will defray the cost of your education to the tune of $7.5 * n, you fucking retard. The very thing you whine about below.

...Yes, that would be roughly equivalent to what I said. You'll find living off campus cheaper still.

Irrelevant anyway though. The point of those examples was simply to illustrate that you can easily make "sacrifices" that will save you substantial amounts of money, not to make any specific criticisms. If you want to live the high life, more power to you. Just don't expect my tax dollars to pay the tab.

And for the record, I didn't live on campus first year (UCSD). It isn't required.

Exactly what I was getting at above. Cost of living is all a matter of how miserable you want to be.

Could you come up with a reasonable living arrangement on, to use your current wage, $7.5/hr? Of course you could. I could, even here in La Jolla. You probably wouldn't be happy with it, but the point here is that it's possible.

So, in your own words, you don't need financial aid to cover anything other than tuition. Which is about how things are now for most folks - unless your parents are uber-rich bastards, you'll probably be awarded the cost of tuition, registration, school fees, etc through some combination of grants and loans. Hm.

Of course you are. That's a really shitty argument for getting handouts, though.

Where did I say this? Oh, right, I didn't. You're just whining again. Handouts from the government wouldn't make you any better off. More fulfilled, perhaps. But you aren't any worse off not receiving extra money from the government - we've already established that you can take care of yourself month to month. So you have to work 20 hrs/wk like I do. Oh well. The government doesn't pay for you to have free time to go out with your friends every night.

Even with the amount I work (both school and my job), I still have time for a girlfriend, and I still spend plenty of time fucking around on my computer.

Anyway, the solution here is simple: quit your complaining and try to grow up a bit.

er...what?

The chances of dying are about .008%, over the last 20 years, but that doesnt meant a big war wont happen and change that.

They want me to go there, but I dont like the school. The traditions are far too prevalent, and I dont really like places like that. The aggies seem like a cult, to me.

Where is this quality education? University of Texas @ Tyler is a shitty school.

The school sets you up, the tutoring is free to students. Im not going to gouge people that can get tutoring for free. And actually, at my school the highest paid position for students is tutoring. Lab assistants ( what I also do ) get paid minimum, as well as every other on campus position that I know of.

When a service is offered free, the university is the place to work doing it, because people arent going to pay what they can get for free.

Yea, I know one at my school. His parents have more money than my entire family combined.

$10,000,000 is the worth of a human life. Well, an American one anyways. Actually that's probably a little on the high side, but dying in a war isn't how most people would choose to go, so preference might raise the value a little.
