Sweet. Don't forget to pull the FP fuse

If you can't find it and don't feel like doing it, go ask a real shop to do it and go from there.

My .02: go to a place that looks like this -

And avoid the guy who's doing this -

So the plan is to do a compression test myself on Saturday when the car is *actually* cold...

I don't actually even know if there's a point in doing that at this point.... I basically already know how the car is going to function from here on out..

Either I put up with morning-only rough idle that goes away in a matter of seconds or I pay thousands for a new motor... It's only rough if the motor has been sitting overnight.

Dude.

You. Don't. Know. What. Is. Wrong. With. It.

DO the compression test. HAVE someone competent check for vaccum leaks. TROUBLESHOOT properly.

Then worry about replacing components. If it runs without lots of smoke, its probably not a mechanical problem.

Explain what exactly I'm going to accomplish by running a compression test when I know the motor is making good compression and is running flawlessly

the mechanic said there was no reason to even do this test while the motor was warm, I agree with his logic.

The motor is between 19 and 20 in/hg at idle while warm.

YOU DON'T KNOW IT IS MAKING GOOD COMPRESSION IF YOU HAVE NOT RUN A COMPRESSION TEST!

It is NOT supposed to be a stumbling rough idle at start up. There is definitely something wrong with the car and its best to just figure out what it is instead of just tossing parts at it.

And seriously, I can't believe you think this mechanic is competent.
