OH DURR IM DEEPLY CATHOLIC I JUST DONT BELIEVE IN GOD OR JESUS OR GO TO CHURCH

edit: She obviously doesn't want to follow the church, so bending to her parent's will isn't going to help anything. Help her be her own person and help her come up with ways to convince her parents to let her be her own person. This most likely won't work because religious people aren't particularly bright, so try to provide support in terms of a shoulder to cry on or a sofa to crash on

yet she attends church every sunday, attends church functions, teaches classes, and regularly speaks with her bishop. She's as devout as anyone else who doesn't follow every single rule that their church puts into place.

send your friend to China, she will either die there or comes back as a normal human being.

This is why I think many chinese that I know are utterly socially retarded.

Thank you.

My guess is that whatever decision she makes now she'll end up leaving the church at some point.

You probably didn't mean it this way, but this came off as rather obnoxious. Be a little more aware of people's financial situations and their cultures. The family unit has much more emphasis in Asia.

You don't get to do anything, nor do you have the right. I think her parents are doing the right thing actually. I'm not a huge religious person, but wanting to keep their daughter away from halucinating drugs, alcohol and bad influences sounds like a good parent... regardless how old the child is.

While she lives at home, she knows the rules. She'll either decide to please her parents and have a happy home life, staying away from drugs and alcohol or ditch her entire family for a guy and vice. Its her choice, not yours.

edit. Because she's young, she'll likely break from the family soon and do her thing. But then 6 years later, a little washed up she'll wonder what happened to her innocence.

really good job staying away from value judgments there, chief.

i agree with the stay at home, follow the rules part of it. and also with the fact that there's not much you should/can do, other than tell her what you think succinctly, and then support her however she decides.
