I have always been a Godaddy fan

however, recent threads have made me consider Namecheap for the free private registration. I find it ubsurd that Godaddy charges $9 a year or so for this feature. I have yet to pay it, I just have false info on all my registrations (recently found out this could be a problem, but it's been like this for years, and I am not sure how much of a problem it is, just know that it is). A feature like this should be FREE IMHO or damn near it, say $2 a year or something.

That said, anyone use Namecheap's DNS?
Right now I have 3 or so domains DNS records servered from Godaddy for my Google Apps domains and it works flawlessly.

My registrar offers free domain privitization, assuming it's one of the domains that can accept it. Any company that charges you extra is swindling you out of money, IMO. NetworkSolutions offers like 30 or 40 different things you can buy, for insane prices. How often are you going to use your registar anyway that you need all this crap?

In some situations, it's a huge problem if you have false info in your registration. If ICANN, or someone attempts to contact you, for any reason, and it's false... well that can definately be a problem. In the event that someone steals your domain, when they look through the history, and the info is false... you really have no claim. There's a lot more, it's just safer to keep it accurate.

Oh, and recently, a friend was signing his website up for some type of web-application, or certificate, and they used his whois info to call/email him confirmation codes and such. Interesting approach, but if this trend is used more often, it could make it impossible to work with if your info is inaccurate.

(Just looked it up - I've been using them since 2000 and have never had a problem.)

i've been with hytek hosting for two years and never had any problems, switched after too much hax on made2own. i've heard good things about mediatemple too, but their cheapest plan is $20/month (100 GB storage, 1 TB transfer)

bluehost, dreamhost etc. all nail you on CPU usage, that's the fine print.

Using Hostgator to host one of my sites at the moment. I think cPanel is just great! No need to do all of those coding stuff.
