How accurate is a pregnancy test at 5 weeks+1 day since the last period?
My g/f took one tonight and it was negative. Does that mean we are in the clear? |

Is she prone to irregular periods? If she is, then I wouldn't worry too heavily. If her periods are always on time, you might wanna retry it in a day or so. If it still says negative, then I wouldn't worry |

She's extremely irregular. She has had them start at 21 days, and at 38 days. Those are two extremes of course but they never start on the same day each month. There is usually a 5-6 day difference between each one. She's having definite premenstrual symptoms but still no period. Tomorrow will be day 37 (or 36, she's not sure if she marked the first day down correctly). I'm still gonna be worried until she starts, but a negative pregnancy test is definitely a good sign right? Especially since it's been so long since her last period. |

If she doesn't start her period in 3-4 more days, take another pregnancy test Has she been under a lot of stress lately? Diet changes? Iron (blood) problems? Those kinds of things can make a girl's period late. They might account for the extremely late period in her case. Other than that, you get to play the waiting game ![]() |

2 more preggo tests - one this morning, it kinda fucked up though.....she got like half a line in the square that tells you if you did the test right....and nothing in the "pregnant" square. then the accuracy confirmation square faded to where it was barely visible. tonight she took another one because she was feeling like crap and we were scared it was pregnancy symptoms, but this one came up negative immediately. the confirmation square line immediately filled in but again nothing in the pregnancy square. it was one that detects very low levels of the pregnancy hormone too. it is now DAY 39!!!! which freaks me the FUCK out. she went back and looked at a calendar of some of her previous periods and one actually went for 40 (!) days. so we've still got a couple days before we test again. she felt like total shit tonight though, so hopefully she's going to start soon. i wonder if when she does it will be extremely heavy or something ![]() i'm really not worried about her being pregnant though. i mean, it is a possibility, but if she is, then she has been for quite a while now (by dr's standards, over 5 weeks - by ours, about 2 1/2) to account for her period being so late, and i highly doubt 3 preggo tests are gonna fail and give us false negatives each time. we also used a condom every time and I never touched her "down there" after having sex and removing the condom, nor did we ever make genital contact without there being a condom on. no breakage either. it just seems very, very unlikely. at this point we are thinking that her lack of period, if it isn't just extremely late, may be caused by some kind of medical problem rather than a pregnancy.

Well my drama in this thread ends here -
SHE STARTED LAST NIGHT! hell yes. Such a relief. Now, no more sex until she's on BC.

congrats on her not being preggy; now like you said, get that woman on birth control! (though I'd personally advice still using some kind of secondary method of protection, ie: condom, spermicides, etc) |

![]() and yeah, BC is a must. is there any place we can go to BC for cheap w/o insurance? she's a minor and her parents would freak if they found a bill for BC on their statement. planned parenthood maybe? as for secondary protection - YES. spermicide seems like a good option, but at first we will probably still use condoms. condoms+BC=almost no failure rate. hey, even if the little bastard tears it won't be an issue ![]()

has anyone used the climax control condoms of any sort? the ones that use benzocaine to essentially numb your penis to allow you to last longer?
im wondering what those are like compared to other ones.... |

Birth Control pills help make irregular periods regular, relieve cramps, make the period lighter. Have ur girl tell her doctor she wants to go on the pill and then tell her family it was because she has an irregular period. That's what I did and it works great. |

TRUTH. Also, Planned Parenthood will give you ~1 year's worth of BC for free (esp if you're a poor student someplace). You usually have to go in for a consultation-esque meeting, and then they'll give it to you. Safe. Confidential. And for secondary methods... BC + condom is a good combination; and always make sure you have a second method (backup method) just in case EDIT: Planned Parenthood is usually free, and if not, extremely cheap |

Quick note - there is some evidence to suggest that spermicide can increase the transmission of blood-bourne STDs. But if you are both clean (and you should have been tested, hopefully) then it is a decent backup method (not great, barrier methods are far better, but better than nothing).

I had a doctor tell me that i do not need a backup method while on the nuva ring. what do you think? i just am a little worried. i am good about making sure everything is done correctly and all. i just came off the shot and switched, and with the shot i never worried about it. please let me know your experiences and what not. thanks!

My girlfriend and I are new to the whole birth control thing, and she accidentally threw away her instructions when she tossed the box for her patches. She's on her first patch-free week. Is it safe to not use a secondary method of birth control during this time?

I used a secondary method anyways because I'm paranoid... if your doc said it was ok though, do what you think is best |
