I pay $78 / year for liability on my GS500E. I'm 25, married, with a clean record so maybe that helped.

Yea i used AIS also.
All i needed was whatever insurance is required by law so AIS worked great.

Something like 160 for a year.

got insurance yesterday.
107 for a year woot!
first day of MSF riding today, was bunches of fun. I came home all happy to ride my own bike while it was daylight (still on a permit of course).
I still need to clean the carbs out, it cant idle for shit, sometimes it will rev up to 4-5k for no reason but eventually it will always fall back down to 2...1.... cutout. Hopefully ill be able to square that away tomorrow even though i have no idea how to tune the carbs yet other than what the clymers tells me.
Wish me luck!

I pay 1100 CDN for a year on my Kawa 500R. That is the most basic coverage I can get. I will be adding theft soon which will pretty much double that.

Since it's your dad's, I'm sure you can get an accurate account of how well it was taken care of

Other than that, as long as it has been maintained well, you won't have any problems aside from carb tuning every once in awhile. Just make sure all the fluids are good, double check / replace the brake lines and and clutch / throttle cables.

Good, solid performers. Not exactly beginners bikes, but they've got a pretty good feel to them.

I've got a V-Star 1100, and if the 650 are the same you have to take off the exhaust to get to the oil filter. A bit anoying, but unless you will be packing on the miles than you won't be doing that often enough for it to be a problem.
