Finally deciding to download it on my laptop. Setting up a Windows and Linux TF2 server as we speak. I have a dedicated 1gb pipe to a backbone here.

Pre-order price on Steam is $45. The Source engine scales extremely well on non-uber systems, so it should run well on your laptop.

Kind of, but some of the critical binaries are still missing. I've been continuing to run the steam updater to see if they release them. Since I've lost my patience on the Linux side of TF2, I started dling it on one of my Windows servers. About half-way done.

Started downloading as soon as I got home from work, went out to dinner and stuff, and got home around 10pm and it was only at 60% D:

This morning I got up and was like "100%! Fuck yeah! Time to go to work!". I've already convinced myself I shouldn't go home early... now I'm just trying to convince myself to not skip the gym after work.

you better not skip the gym today, because after you play it you won't want to go for about a month or 2.

I'm addicted -- while it's not as close to original TFC, I think the 'cartoony' feel is entertaining... The game isn't as hardcore serious it seems, and allows me to just have fun.

In any case, great buy -- tons of fun. The steam community/stats tracking/achievements thing is a neat idea.. I hope they bring that in for more games.
