well you can start by picking up a power wire/RCA kit at walmart and putting it in your car.

Do you have an aftermarket deck installed yet?

Alpine type R's are good for the price and are very thumpy. Pair it with whatever 500w rms mono channel amp you can find for cheap.

I've had good experience with Alpine Type R 12 ". 1 is ample, 2 will turn your brain to mush.

I've also had good experience with maxxsonics made amps. (I've had an HI FONICS brutus to 1 alpine type R. Now I have an MBquart amp pushing 4 infinity kappas.) they're crisp and clear.

If you add subs, remove the factory sub, or disconnect it.

edit: if I had $5,000 to blow on a system, I would get 1x JL 13W7. I consider it the veyron of subs.

I had dual 13w7s in a passband... sold it with an RF750 to a kid for $450

I realized having bloated low end is retarded because it is annoying and harmful. A single 10 or 12 in a sealed box is plenty. For a small hatchback a good sealed 8" will definitely do the trick.

I would go with the last one if anything. Aim it into the cabin, set the phase to 180 and you'll be good.

Don't touch the MTX stuff imo. I would order some Fi drivers and head to your local Best Buy car bay for a box to put it in.

Amps - well they can literally be cloned in china by blueprint so they are generally speaking all the same. Get whatever you want - even a little 250w will work most single 10" or 12" just fine.

I really like my Image Dynamics with a JL 250w amp. Sealed box does it good. It doesn't hit the first octave too well, but I don't normally listen to that type of music anymore anyways.

Right, then slip some cyanide into your morning coffee.

DON'T buy a wiring kit from Wal Mart.

Well, the biggest killer of subs when listening at high volume is the amp clipping. This should be your single most expensive item. If the signal to the sub isn't good, it's gonna die. Think of your bass in terms of how your amp looks at it. You have a sine wave coming from the head unit with nice rounded peaks and valleys (even on cheap models - it's an unamped signal so it's easy to get it clean enough where most people would never tell the difference) and the amp cranks up this sine wave, and the sub's voice coil moves along with this sine wave, and everybody is happy as you crank out the jiggaboo tunes. But, you come to a song you like, and crank that shit into next week, and the signal at either the headunit or amplifier - usually the amplifier - will start to get a sine wave with squared off edges. When this reaches the sub, it will not move smoothly with it, and will be in one position when the amp wants it in another, the voice coil will momentarily be a small resistive heater - more so than usual. Too much of that, and she's cooked, son. The official rule of thumb is the amp needs to have roughly twice the RMS rating as the sub. This is actually more important than what subs you get. You could use a cheap 12" pioneer sub and get a better sound than the guy who has two type r's simply because his shit isn't set up right.
