Would you put a teen into an older vehicle?

Without elaborating too much, maybe some of you saw that Chevy Malibu video where they crashed a recent model Malibu into the 40 year old equivalent. The newer Malibu came out on top due to a ton of safety features developed over the past forty years.

So having said that, would you consider putting a new driver (16) into an older vehicle? Based on my own life experiences, teen drivers are very likely to get into an accident within their first year of driving, although in most cases they are usually just fender benders, which is something to consider.

i drove one as my first car, no creature comforts, no driver's aids, hell, no power anything (including the engine), i pay attention to the road a helluva lot more than most people i know

You can be rest assured that
1) They'll have to try *very* hard to get a speeding ticket.
1.5) If they are speeding, the officer probably won't notice a beige 80s Volvo.
2) They won't be trying to do wheelstands from stoplight to stoplight
3) Maintenance is a joke. They'll learn something from it.
4) They're actually quite safe.

who the fuck in the right mind actively pursues a 40 year old car for a teen? I mean unless its a mustang or someshit, or like a classic that the kid deserves or a project car or something meaningful...

figure out a fucking budget for yourself and find something reliable that was made in the last decade

You have to qualify "old"

At a certain point vehicles become "modern" -i would say if it has IFS/IRS, 4 wheel discs and ABS it's modern enough for someone I love.

Or how about a used taxi? you can get one with less than 800,000 miles on it and airbags working for cheap. It will be the latest body style too.
