Hey, this may sound strange, but I recommend going to your library and looking and reading at photographer books. Since this semester has started I've been spending every day in there checking out all the HCB, winogrand, eggleston, adams, walker evans, robert frank etc books I can find.

The biggest lie is "Who needs to learn anything, you have photoshop"

If you want to get a little more advanced, the Rotovision Pro Lighting series is the best, my assistants use them for reference often for set-ups.

Rather than starting a thread...

Anyone got any recommendations for 'basic photography' books? On amazon works for me since it is almost time for another order.

Not concerned with the finer technical aspects so much as composition and setting. I have no artistic talent at all. None. Zip. Nada. I take a lot of photos and although the worth of many is in their content, the composition is often lacking and I am not sure how to go about improving it.

By all means, if it has an overview of some of the finer technical aspects included, that would be a bonus.

I accept with information:It also focuses on technique a lot more than it does on how to Photochop your pics to look great.
