Having Female Roommates?

I'm a 23 year old male in college as a Junior (I took a year and a half off from school), and my current roommates have all found other living situations for next year, but regardless of where they're going, I need to find a new living situation.

I don't know of any people looking for roommates / housing, so I've been browsing craigslist and our school's forum for roommates. 70-80% of the posts are females looking for housing. One has responded, and I'll be looking at her place on Monday.

Anyways, my question is: how many you guys (males) have lived with female roommates? Or on the flipside, any females that have lived with males? All non-romantic living situations. I've lived this entire last year with my roommates drama free for the most part. I kinda like it that way. I guess I would prefer to live with guys, but if the living situation was good, I would live with a girl.

What are your guys' experiences?

Plus side is they are more inclined to clean...As much as students are willing to do so. Major downside is they can be absolute bitches and very immature.

I would never live with student girls again due to this but a professional lady I would.

have done it would not do it again

my biggest gripe was that they would leave their hair in the fucking drain so id be taking baths/showers every morning. that drain got cleaned maybe once per month, if that. the bathroom never stopped stinking for one week out of the month, either.

pretty much any woman you live with will think her taste in decorating is the bee's knees and put ridiculous crap up all over. itll most likely end up looking like a clown puked up a head shop.

they also ate cheese like it was the antidote. shit couldnt last a week.

other than the physical space issues, having female room mates was nice though, got a lot of good intel that way

so basically if you can have your own half with a private bathroom, go for it. otherwise, i wouldnt.

I don't think there's any advice to give here. Everyone's experience will vary. I'm living in an apt with a couple and one other girl. The lone girl is nice and clean. The couple are a pair of pigs but after a brief talk about how I'm not gonna be cleaning up their menstruation and shit off the toilet seat (it happened ), it seems like they've realized they gotta be more mindful of others lol.

I lived with three female roommates during my senior year. All three of them had widely varying personalities. One was athletic and had a steady boyfriend. One was a stoner who was in the apartment one or two nights a week and always cooked shit late at night. She also never did dishes. The third chick was a right-wing bible freak who did Tae Kwon Do and hung out with cops because she had a fetish for dudes in uniform.

It all depends on who you choose. I moved in to that apartment after they had been living together for a year already. Things were in a pretty stable equilibrium. I'd suggest finding chicks that are down to earth and more prone to hang with guys than "girlfriends".

I've lived with girls for the last 3 years (2 different ones for 6 months and the same one for the last two years).

For the most part, they were cleaner about cleaning up the PUBLIC spaces of the apartment. Their own spaces varied, and the one girl I shared a bathroom with was kind of gross. I talked to her and she cleaned it up, no problem.

I prefer girls to guy roommates because they tend to give me my space more, they do their own thing, and occasionally they have cute friends. I didn't like living with guys because usually when I was at home (meaning not working or at school) I wanted to be left to myself, and they always wanted to party or go out.

My 2 cents.

It depends. I live in a big college town. I've had some female roommates who were fine, others who were awful. I think it depends alot on the school. The girls who were bad all went to Johnson and Wales, which is a notorious party school. They wanted to go out and get high more than they wanted to pay bills.

Well having lived with 3 different women as only roommates, I will say this...
Not all women clean and cook. You can't really predict how they will live once they get out of their parents house without someone nagging them to not be disgusting.
Separate bathrooms are an absolute necessity. Nuff said.
Fool around with their friends, never with them... unless you are planning on never breaking things off with them.
Be prepared to have your space taken over with frilly useless crap. Many women have the need to surround themselves with things to "soften" their surroundings.
Not all women are okay with you having the guys over to watch sports or action movies or whatever else. It's your space too so be sure to put your foot down early, but don't forget that they will be doing the same.
Women often have female friends that they have over. This is a plus.
SOME women do tend to be cleaners and cookers. The older they are while still being single the less likely this becomes.
Overall there is really no difference logistically between having male and female roommates, but it's much easier to get along with men. Women like to hold grudges and get super emotional about nothing at all.

Live with a family - I am right now and they give me all the space I want and do all the household chores, cook me food, etc. I've tried to help out many times but they won't allow me :P. It's the happiest living arrangement I've been in since moving from home ~6 years ago.

Women are messier than men. After having had 10 different female non-romantic roommates I feel I can say this with full confidence.

Unless you're some kind of perv, it's not much different than having male roommates.

I live in a college town, and I haven't found a single family listing.

Good advice from everyone by the way, please keep it coming

Haha! Maybe it was just me and the girl I lived with. She was clean, but a total bitch.

One of my current roommates usually gets on people's cases if the place isn't clean, so I can handle that (if that's something more common with females, haha).
