Meh, after playing a bit the game just screams "Generic" to me. The weapons, the gameplay, it just feels meidcore to me at the moment. Nothing really "pops" or seems unique/fun about it.

Perhaps I'm spoiled by playing bad company 2 with it's destructable environments and things.

What makes this game stand out is the command structure. Good squad and platoon leaders can really have a big effect on the outcome. Other games may have leaders but I find that it really matters in mag.

Unfortunately until you qualify from squad leader, you're just a grunt and really don't get to see the big picture. I would, however, make a real attempt to try paying attention to frago targets and find a good squad where you're all communicating. This game shines with teamwork.

just got it. its pretty fun so far, alot of the control and firing reminds me of bf2 which is nice. graphics arn't too bad either considering the scope of it. i also like that you need to pull out the nade with 1 button then throw it with another, definitely reduces nade spam.

hrm. Played around with setting squad leader targets, and I never seem to get any exp bonus around my target, it still seems to just revolve around map objectives and not anything that the squad leader sets, at least from my experience.

On the one map where SVER is always defending their comms, on the right side of the map theres 2 bunkers, from those bunkers you can hold the right hand lane and throttle the flow down the middle and also stop any railway incursion from the right side of the map. Theres also a supply depot in the bunker so you can hold it indefinitely.I'd set that as an objective to hold because its a fuck ton more effective than the roof of the comms tower and I'd get no additional experience from holding a key position with a marked objective =/

So the new MAG open beta starts today. Anyone else going to give this a try?

I predownloaded it so I'm gonna jump on right after work.

i gave the open beta a run last night.

combat feels pretty basic and straight forward. you dont die too fast or too slow, aside from head shots which i dont think are 1 hit kills but more of a huge damage inflicter (unless the sniper is then idk) i think its pretty good.i still need to get into using a controller for fps again which is proving to be frustrating.

when playing the sabotage mode (i thought they were having 2 modes open in beta?) i think it was only 64v64? yet it felt more like 10v10 on my side of the map (sabotage is divided into 2 spawns per team and 2 objectives per team). i dont know what it was but i didnt get the feeling that there were over 30 players on my team.

I had the same feelings about the size. I also didn't like the audio. Everything sounded weak like we were playing with paintball guns.

I was hoping for something more grand with bombs going off, sounds off bullets going everywhere, etc. Maybe the 256 game feels that way but the 64vs64 seem like weak mod to CS.

Played some more last night and I'm starting to enjoy the game but it still seems unpolished in several areas.

Don't know if I'll buy it, there are just way to many games out this month.

So the open beta closed last night. Played a lot 256 player games and once I figured out what was going on it was pretty fun. I only had a couple of games that had rubber band lag. Other than that it was lag free.

I still think the audio could be improved and all the buttons should be mappable. The movement isn't to bad once I turned up my sensitivity. I think it starts way to low. The only thing stopping me from buying it day one is the $60 price tag for an online only game with only 15 maps. What I've read is it's 3 maps per mode, which if true would get boring fast.

You know...4 months after release...a $15 map pack will probably be released.

Seems like the normal thing to do now, since console games can be updated these days.

I don't own a PS3, but this game interests me greatly.

edit: a fancy black blu-ray player is looking mighty good, but I gotta cut the expenses
edit2: 15 maps doesn't sound too bad, if you consider they're big enough to accommodate 256 players

Unfortunately true. The good old days of free downloads are over with.

There's only 1 game mode that does 256 players. Then I believe 1 is 128 and the others are 64.

If they use the same maps and just expand them for the larger game modes then I'd be fine with that but just judging by the beta it doesn't look like that's what they are doing.

BF2 style, worked great for BF games
