is the game totally pvp centric or is pvp going to be rare because of the risk of losing items? I dont think there will be entirely huge battles if you can lose all your crap.

seems like it will be solo pvp or duo pvp against a slew of people who want to kill the pvpers

That would be awesome if this game catches some of the essence of UO that made it soo unique. Sadly ive been waiting for 10 years for that to happen

It'll appeal to a small niche of gamers and griefers, half of what they plan will never make it in the game.

predicition: Servers shut down 14 months after game release.

At some point they will need to limit the amount of characters in each area due to this decision. Generally that's done with instancing. Instancing sucks. It's a "solution" for lazy developers, or in this case, developers promising more than they can deliver.

There are a whole slew of issues; the type that are caused by over ambition. Those are the kind that are unable to be fixed. You're not going to hear about them from "beta reports" that the developers have handpicked though.

You heard this from where? lilnk/info?

The thing about games like this is you have to throw out your pre conception of how items are treated from games like WoW, EQ, etc.

Your skills and your skills as a player matter mor ethen what items you are using, gear does not "make" your character like it does in most games.

The point of the game is not to send you on oa carrot hunt for items to kill bigger PVE m onsters in order to get uber gear to rinse and repeat ad nauseum.

It's a sandbox game designed to allow you the player to do what you wish how you wish, pvp, crafting, exploring, etc.

Gear will all be obtainable by other players (crafters) among other ways.

Just speaking from my UO experience but in UO if you lost your shit you would almost always have backup gear in your bank and/or house. It was just a quick stop by to pick up some new gear. You didn't have to grind for hours to get it back or anything.

As well even without the gear you could simply get a weajpon and still be valuable on the battlefield, as your skills and things matter more then the gear.

Always mr. Negative

Lots of things are already in the game already, just a matter of testing and balancing out. (IE mounts, collision based hit detection with locations, the crafting to a degree, etc).

Just looks like a slightly more polished Darkfall. Which isnt a huge step at all, since Darkfall was far into the negative from that aspect.

I'm going to be skeptical though and not knock it until I try it. But I'm not going to get my hopes up for it to be anything like a new UO. Thats an experience that wont be recreated... period.

I am getting bored of the nostalgic "hardcore full-loot pvp, with player skill!" mentality. Nothing will ever come close to real player skill like in an actual FPS. Trying to get 100% player skill in an MMO is impossible... its always going to be good players and bad players, with no middle ground. Or at least it will be that way until "RPG Stats" arent involved in any way. Problem is people want persistant stats and that carrot on a stick to keep playing an MMO.

The problem with Darkfall was that they just really didn't have the development of much of anything besides the bare world and combat/magic.

As far as the pvp goes with Darkfall it failed in having a reason to NOT pk really, because the way everything was setup you could flourish as a red and in order to go blue you'd farm newbies to get back to blue, horrible setup.

In MO they are making going Red have enough of a consequence more of old UO, where you had reasons for staying blue while red's still had enough rewards they'd do it but many won't.

With things like No global chat and no map allowing you to really get lost/have the world feel large and explored you'll want to get to know people/form friendships with others in the game so you know that the guy won't backstab you among other things.

I think this game could be alright. Being a person who enjoys greifers and greifing, this game should be a lot of fun. Having the risk of getting ganked out of nowhere is what makes MMO games fun. The last thing I want in a game is to feel like I'm in some sort of nanny state. I like games in which the option to kill anyone is constantly open, not just in specially marked areas or against only certain people.

The whole idea of no world chat is also appealing. The greatest way to ruin immersion in a game like this is getting spammed by some fag from the other side of the world who wants to sell his +3 dark blade with emerald enchantments for a ridiculous price.

I'm looking forward to trying this game out.

MO does not have archery or magic in-game yet, and melee is broken (hits don't register correctly). This game is years away from being finished.

P.S.: http://darkfallonline.com/expansion/

What are you talking about? They have archery and even talk about it in the beta previews/show it in the videos.

Not sure where you got that info.

Anyone else pre order it today?

The pre orders were supposed to go up this morning but they had server problems and it was delayed and delayed and delayed.

They finally went up and after checking all fucking day long for that shit, ready to shell out 80'ish USD for the LE or 50i'ish for the normal version:

Normal boxed version =75'ish usd
LE = 99 bucks (both of which will need + $10 for shipping)

Fuck that shit, guess I'll wait and hope the Digital download one (next week) will be priced as a normal fucking game, still not sure then after this bollocks.

Reminds me of Mourning now.
