I doubt you could work VATS into multiplayer. Fallout was established as a single player franchise, so I'm just expecting an in-depth single-player experience.

...why the hell would there be multiplayer in a fallout game? or a bethesda game?

The only thing I'm worried about is the load times
I was so excited to play this that I loaded up Oblivion on my 360 the other day and remembered the load times that always took me out of the action.
If they found a way to get rid of these (hell, even if the new dashboard update with the preloading feature fixes this) I'm gonna LOVE this game
If not... I'll probably still love it
Fallout ftw

Fallout Tactics had multiplayer. Just a simple deathmatch system.

But that was fallout tactics.
A wholly different type of game than fallout and fallout 2.

I'm giving it a chance. If it sucks, i still have a lot of faith in the mod community.

This is what Bush is doing to our Freedoms and Country!

I got to play this for about an hour at PAX. They did skip over a bunch of stuff in the exhibited demo so they could get to blowing up Megaton within the span of time that they had.

Problems I had with Oblivion that are no longer present:
* No more lack of distinct voice actors. We'll see how long into the game that lasts, but I didn't notice any VA repeats in particular.
* No more level scaling
* You do not level up by grinding your skills
* Combat, even melee, feels really good and visceral. VATS is very fluid, and my AP was filling back up to full after maybe 30 seconds. I did most of my fighting using VATS.
* I was finding cool gear all the time and was impressed by how quickly all the characters on the different demo stations were going off in different directions, even though they were all based on the same pre-made character. I felt like Oblivion gave you the choice of: leather armor, steel armor. Then eventually you could upgrade to something shinier. But it was always the same, and all the monsters dropped the same crap over and over.
* Map travel does not start off with any major cities or anything like that on it.
* After killing the sheriff of Megaton immediately upon meeting him and holing myself up in his house and trying to fend off everyone who immediately decided to bum rush me, I escaped out the front gate. 10 guards did not spawn to chase me out into the wilderness until I either killed them all or went to prison. I found that refreshing.

So yeah, you guys need to chill the fuck out. It's a good game. It does not feel like Oblivion. It has the snuggly twisted vibe you want.

Edit: Not that any of this matters, because clearly Todd Howard is the antichrist and was put on earth specifically to slap you in the face. Maybe some of you could stand to be slapped in the face.

i'm scrivener and this is completely outlandish. not only will the game not be featuring mid-nineties graphics, the control scheme and gameplay are going to be disgustingly usable and enjoyable, respectively. i for one will be playing arena with infrequent bathroom breaks until someone has the sense to make a cliched trainwreck of a game that conforms to all of my insane ideas.

that sounds awesome , I was watching the PAX on XPLAY and they had a bunch of people playing it , looked fucking awesome. I've always been excited about the game but thats mainly because im a hardcore Fallout Fanboy , it really sounds like it will deliver ( I dont object to change ) , it also from your brief play seems the hammered alot of the gay shit out from what was wrong with oblivion originally.

Agreed.

I was happy enough upon reading "no level scaling."

One question though: can you enter any building you want, or are there some that are just walls with door graphics on them?

I actually didn't notice one way or the other, it didn't occur to me. Sorry. Everything I *tried* to go into was a real door, I'll just say that.
