For the cost of a decent HD TV + the console you could easily build a nice gaming PC and a nice 22" display

Problems I had with Oblivion that are no longer present:
* No more lack of distinct voice actors. We'll see how long into the game that lasts, but I didn't notice any VA repeats in particular.
* No more level scaling
* You do not level up by grinding your skills
* Combat, even melee, feels really good and visceral. VATS is very fluid, and my AP was filling back up to full after maybe 30 seconds. I did most of my fighting using VATS.
* I was finding cool gear all the time and was impressed by how quickly all the characters on the different demo stations were going off in different directions, even though they were all based on the same pre-made character. I felt like Oblivion gave you the choice of: leather armor, steel armor. Then eventually you could upgrade to something shinier. But it was always the same, and all the monsters dropped the same crap over and over.
* Map travel does not start off with any major cities or anything like that on it.
* After killing the sheriff of Megaton immediately upon meeting him and holing myself up in his house and trying to fend off everyone who immediately decided to bum rush me, I escaped out the front gate. 10 guards did not spawn to chase me out into the wilderness until I either killed them all or went to prison. I found that refreshing.

So yeah, you guys need to chill the fuck out. It's a good game. It does not feel like Oblivion. It has the snuggly twisted vibe you want.

Edit: Not that any of this matters, because clearly Todd Howard is the antichrist and was put on earth specifically to slap you in the face. Maybe some of you could stand to be slapped in the face.

You may very well have restored a tiny smattering of hope for me. Did the actual game have more blood than we saw in the trailers and preview videos (those are sometimes censored regardless of age gate)? Like did it actually splatter on walls and stuff? What about the dialogue options? How varied were they? Did available dialogue options change depending on stats? Details, man, details.

65" LCD TV + 7.1 surround + Console < 65" LCD Monitor + 7.1 surround + PC to run it

Speaking purely for the cost to do it.

With any luck the PS3 version will have KB/M support.

PC edition for me! PC 4 lyfe. I find it so much nicer sitting on my PC than on a console for whatever reason.

Ummmmmm, it's.. pretty violent. I don't specifically recall whether or not blood was splattering on walls (edit: just glanced at the feed from the OP. The blood levels in that are the same as what I was playing), but I do recall that it felt pretty brutal. I didn't get to see the bloody mess perk, but Emil (just looked this up, that was the designer guy who we were yacking with while playing) was telling me about how that kind of ratcheted things up to an absurd level.

Dialog options, I do not have detailed impressions. There were a few instances where an option would pop up that indicated that my speech skill was involved, but I'm not sure if that was a persuasion roll or if it popped up because I had the necessary points. I know for sure there is a perk called Lady Killer (Black Widow if you are a female character) that adds different dialog options for opposite gender conversations. Unfortunately I didn't get into that terribly deeply, for those around me found it much more entertaining when I was bludgeoning raiders and putting on their s&m armor.

Ok I just watched the videos from the first post. I think it's a direct feed from the live demo they did in the theater, but it's edited down severely (they went for a little over an hour) and it doesn't have any of them talking about what they're doing over it. Particularly in the portion of the game where they're walking around in Megaton, they basically edited out all of the dialog.

So, to placate Stiler's fear that Burke launches right into telling you to blow up Megaton: he doesn't. There's a dialog tree that leads to that, although I am not certain whether or not the other trees prevent him from presenting the quest opportunity to you.

odd
I make it rain on them hoes.

I too played this at PAX. I don't know, it seems like it could really be fun. There was hardly any dialog in the demo I played. It seemed to be a FPS with some RPG tossed in. Think S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Granted it was a demo and I really hope the final is polished. The one thing that gave me hope was some dev told me that they (Bethesda) knew that they cannot fuck this up. Like I have said before, what *I* have seen, it looks like Fallout only in name. Yes the Pipboy and the general theme is there but it did not feel like a Fallout title. Again, I did not see any of the dialog and that is what makes Fallout. I had hardly any faith before I played this, but I am hopeful afterward.

It was on a 360 but I'll be picking up the PC version. The dev said that they will be doing everything to make the PC version, a PC version if that makes any sense. Think 360 Mass Effect vs PC Mass Effect. 360 is baseline for the game and the PC version will have all the extra's and the non console controls. I hope so. I'll be getting this on release regardless.

for everyone who says they don't want to drop 1000 on a gaming system... i just built a gaming rig and i priced everything.. for the price of a PS3 (600) you can get a system that can run fall out 3 pretty much on high settings and get good frames.

my pc is a 2.6 core 2 clocked to 3.6, 4gigs of kingston hyper x ram, evga 680i mb, nvidia geforce 260 gtx, coolermaster case, pc power and cooling 750 watt psu, 2 raptors in raid 0 ( you don't have to raid and save a lot of cash) and there you go that cost me around 700 and its probably cheaper now

i also have which you don't need an xfi card dvd burner and 8 fans

A true Fallout nerd would get the Survival Edition from amazon.com : http://www.amazon.com/Fallout-3-Amaz...0546820&sr=8-1

I got it pre-ordered... but before anyone says anything, I don't have a clock in my room, so I'm justified.

This is all assuming you don't have a good computer and you also don't have the console already. The reason I'm buying the 360 version is that I already have the 360, and I've already got a TV. Therefore, the cost for the gaming computer would be on top of everything else, not just the difference between the 360+TV and the PC.

didn't post anything different other than setting and weapons, but gave no concrete examples of any of it, and that doesn't change the game or gameplay. What zumpiez posted actually changes the gameplay and is an actual example of changes made, not some vague "It looks different!"

edit: Fuck, I did miss his post. My apologies, I think the page break got it. In my defense, the leveling is the only one I see as a concrete difference. Body parts, guns, and post nuclear setting doesn't change gameplay all that much. Zump gave real examples of HOW any of those makes any change.
