free wireless internet?

found over at [H]...

Welcome to Darwin Wireless
About Us
The goal of Darwin Wireless is to establish a completely free medium for computer users of Darwin, NT to interconnect their computers, without the ongoing costs of Telephone Companies and Internet Service Providers.

This is achieved by connecting remote computers together through the 2.4ghz public access spectrum (microwave frequencies). We are currently in setup mode building omni-directional and grid antennas to connect members of the group. These antennas are small and unnoticable (a good place for them is high up on a mast similar to your television antenna). Massively fast file transfers between users are possible. Network gaming is very impressive, video conferencing is full screen and high quality. Apart from the initial start up costs this is completely free.

Anyone interested in joining this free group should contact me on my email address below. Donations of disused or redundant equipment would go a long way towards helping to establish this network (old grid antennas wireless network cards etc). The server computer is an Athlon 1.3ghz with 256mb DDR-RAM which operates the omni-directional co-linear antenna pictured in the photos section.

i am in melbourne australia..
Several public places offer free net over wireless for the specific area (parliament garden, some walkthrough shopping areas and a shopping centre or two..). Kinda useless unless you like public genmay access.., but i guess free net is free net.
