Some people do it that way because they're able to use the angle of the hip to provide "torque" more or less and lift big numbers, it depends on your body type if it will work or not. Rippetoe actually shows it in SS book.

If the way he's doing it is absolutely fine, then that's cool. I know there are many different ways to lift, but I've never seen anyone deadlift like that.

It's called a sumo deadlift.

Ahh, makes sense. I wasn't graced with super stubby limbs and a tiny torso like that dude, so deadlifts and squats are a PITA since the bar has to travel much farther.

When I learned sumo deadlift, my grip was much closer. Does using a wide grip like that make any difference?

He's leaning back a lot but it could be the angle of the video. A lot of people don't properly lock out their shoulders on deads, and it wouldn't get counted in a powerlifting competition.

Sumo vs regular is just a personal choice. Usually you want to have your hands as close together as is comfortable, since it minimizes the travel distance. Go too wide and it's really really tough. Snatch grip deadlifts are actually a fun alternative sometimes, but you have to do a whole lot less weight.

Yep, this is still a great subforum despite the lower overall traffic on gen[m]ay. Wealth of knowledge in a lot of these posters' brains!

This was another reason besides for my own personal gains and motivation to create this thread, some days there aren't any posts in BC and I thought it might help with the traffic a little.

Finished week 8 pretty solid, funny cause day 1 of week 8 sucked. Got my squats, bench and power cleans well, hit my goal of 240 x3 on squats, 205 x3 on bench and 160 x3 on power cleans. Glad to be 2/3 done with the initial 12 weeks but my plan is to keep doing it until I start failing to much.

That's why I did my journal. I stopped doing it when it didn't seem to get more people to do the same to generate traffic.

Well I don't think I'll be able to do Monday's routine on Sunday and don't want to take 4 days in between work outs so I think I'll do Sunday's routine tomorrow. I'll still have 2 days in between workouts but now Wednesday's workout will be Monday and Friday's will be Wednesday. I'm two days ahead of schedule but I figure it's better than missing a day.

Week 9's routine will be:
Code:
Monday
Squat Bench Power Clean
5x 240lbs 5x 205lbs 5x 160lbs

Wednesday
Squat Press Deadlift
5x 180lbs 5x 140lbs 5x 300lbs

Friday
Squat Bench Power Clean
3x 250lbs 3x 210lbs 3x 160lbs

nice, keep chugging along!

yeah, i think one of the strongest parts of journal threads is the discussion that happens in them - posting your tables is good to keep you on track, but not great reading for anyone else. when you hit your goals though, that's inspiring, and when others ask questions in your thread or you do that general sharing of knowledge is super helpful.

Is there something else you'd recommend for showing what numbers I'll be hitting for the week? I just thought the charts would be easiest for everyone, myself included to read.

I worked out Saturday for Monday's instead of Sunday but I'll be skipping today due to Dr. appointment and other stuff so Wednesday's workout will be on Tuesday like normal. Ate like crap over the weekend (probably 3000 calories but way more carbs/sugar than normal) so I'm hoping that doesn't affect the rest of the week's workout too much, but I'm back on eating regularly.

It'd be better if we had a logs section for this sort of thing rather than all of us posting our workout and diet logs, honestly. As much as I like the idea of it, this forum is dedicated to more than just that. But don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm not interested in these threads. I read them pretty often.

Well my idea for that came when there was pretty much no traffic in BC at all. Otherwise I agree with you.

While I agree with you I still don't think there's enough traffic to warrant sectioning this thread off when there's normally 5 to 7 threads that are actually updated a week. There's just not enough traffic these days in BC.

So woke up with a slight pain in the back-right side of my knee that only hurts when I turn my knee at all. Hoping it doesn't affect squats/deadlifts today but we'll see. Either way I'm breaking 300lbs on deadlift today!
