Hence the name unemployment insurance...

Just got my first EI check today for the week of december 5th. $408 after the $90 in taxes they took off. I work a seasonal job and apparently it's not that easy to find a job that pays even close to what i was doing (which isn't much in the first place) I applied for like 12 jobs so far but no bites. While i'm looking for a job of course i'm going to get my EI, i paid into while i was working.

Until then, im taking from others, even if it is collective. Being responsible means having the means and motivation to not have to take from others.

the day you grow up and have to support yourself is the day you get over your childish assumptions about things you don't understand.

big companies pay for it so it wont hurt anyone!

such ignorance astounds me.

No matter what, we all pay for it in one way or another.

No one who actually understands how unemployment is paid for is saying anything like that, so uh, good strawman?

In my area your unemployment payment is based off of what you made a year and a half ago. If I were to be laid off right now, I could get by quite easily off of what I made a year and a half ago, especially if I requested a deferrment in my student loans since I was unemployed.

If you need unemployment to get you through the period of time you are between jobs, then do so. Don't feel guilty unless you are not actively seeking employment. In MT you have to fill out paperwork every week stating that you are actively applying for jobs and haven't passed up opportunities for work. If you can answer such questions truthfully, then don't feel bad for partaking in the benefits that you and your employer have paid into.
