From what I've read about, the next gen 3 will have Mazda's in-house designed "Sky" series engines, as they aren't sharing nearly as much with Ford anymore since Ford sold off almost all their stake in Mazda.

Yea I meant after 2011

His head is in the clouds. There was nothing serious in that post.

My biggest complaint with the mazda 3 is with 17 inch rims its terrible on broken pavement. Hit a a series of small pot holes and its magnified 10 times, sometimes I think its just going to start shedding parts around me. The handling is great but unless you drive around where the roads are smooth as glass you wont like it. If I could put on smaller rims with more rubber, I would.

I have to put in a word for the Speed6. You get the economy of a 4 banger if you can stay off the turbo plus all wheel drive.

If you can stand a 6-speed, they're pretty cheap because they weren't that popular.

Can Mazda3s even be had that cheap? I was under the impression that even the older ones go for like $10K+ around here.

kbb says an 04 mazda3 s hatchback, with a manual and 90k miles (and without dicking around with the options), is worth $7200 in good condition from a private party

I would love a speed6 (or speed3) but they're too much money.

I'll probably find some time at some point soon to test drive them. Since I'm buying used, I've got to find the right model at a place close by.

I'm looking for a stick either way. If theWITNESS is right about there being a big difference in handling, I'll probably get the 3.

I didn't know that. Interesting.

I'd much rather have the cockmobile too, but it just wouldn't be wise financially right now (I made a thread about it a while ago, and got financial sense beaten into me mercilessly). And I'm getting used regardless of what I get.

Absolutely no more than $8k. $7000 would be better, to leave some money for maintenance and repairs, or for something else.

I think the only differences between '05 and '06 is that the '06 models have the trip computer (distance to empty, avg MPG, etc) and heated seats on the GT/leather models.

'05 should be fine.

I'm in the US, there is no GT for 06. I think there's a special edition (sp23?) that has heated leather seats and some other stuff.

I found a 2005 Mazda3 s with 94k miles for $7000. It's kinda dirty and the body isn't in the best shape. The guy selling it is a wholesaler. No maintenance records I'm not sure if it has ABS, which I would prefer to have (it was an option). The CarFax is supposedly clean. Thoughts? Here are the pictures he sent me

Judging by the interior it probably saw a lot of neglect as far as fluids and things, the body is nice though. It was also hit in the rear looks like or the owner reversed into someone's trailer hitch.

The possible neglect as far as fluids go is what concerns me. If it were cheaper it wouldn't be quite as big of a deal to me. The oil was changed recently (I think by the wholesaler) so an oil analysis wouldn't be very helpful.

Oh, and wtf is up with the top of the strut towers? One is rusted and the other isn't. I've never seen that happen before

I just spent a few minutes checking out this guy on Google. One of the results for his phone number was this http://www.yellowpages.com/lothian-m...auto-457004086

I searched for City Line Auto and this (City Line Auto Sales) came up. "Cityline Auto Sales, the premier website for rebuildable, flood, storm, and theft recovery auto sales" There seem to be a lot of places named City Line Auto, but it still seemed pretty fishy. I also found this listing about the guy's business. "City Line Auto in Lothian, MD is a private company categorized under Car Repair and Service."

The guys says the carfax is clean, but I haven't seen it. I'm going to pass on this one. Flood damage is something I don't want to mess around with

I stole my wife's 07 Mazda 3i back in July of 07 for $14k with 2900mi on the odometer. Its been a fantastic car, 63k miles with nothing but oil changes. She averages 28-30mpg normally and we get 33-34mpg on the highway.

Factory tires lasted about 40k and the factory pads lasted 60k. I have zero complaints about the car and would highly recommend it.

Personally, I drove the 3s and the 3i and I couldnt tell much of a difference between the two. The "s" was not worth the extra $ to me, but its just her DD and doesnt get run very hard.
