tipping for detailer v how much

hey everybody, my car is currently being detailed by what seems to be a very good local shop. from their website, it looks like they mainly do really nice cars (ferraris, bentleys, etc.). i got the deal through amazon local ($450 detail for $225). how much do i tip this guy? i figured $20 if its a good job, and $40 if i'm blown away. is that enough? here's the website: http://welcometothestandard.com/ i have the sapphire detail

what complicates everything is i had a lot of problems with setting up an appointment, the guy was not good at answering his phone/returning my calls, and no one was there at the shop at the agreed upon time when i dropped the car off this morning and i had to leave the car there with the keys under the floormat, which i did not like. i think he did it because of the amazon coupon, but if he does do a good job, i'll most likely be taking it by once a year or so, so i don't want to piss him off by stiffing him on a tip and having to go through this ordeal again when i go to get my car detailed the next time.

i know there used to be a few guys who did detailing work. what do you think is fair for the work being done?

Some businesses offer deals and then get pissy when they have to follow through and make less revenue. Way to lose a customer. The whole point of a deal is to hook long term customers.

Screw this detailer.

I would continue to see.
Assuming the job is done well, or above expectations I would say consider tipping for the normal value of $425. So I would think $40 would be good... but if the service continues at a shitty level, either skip the tip... or speak to the owner/manager and decide from there.

Earlier today I tipped my new tailor (first time I have had one, other than a random drycleaner) $20 for $100 worth of work. He did it quick and top notch.

^^i was kinda hoping this. the job was good, but i don't think $450 good. his attitude sucked the whole way through, and he just left my car in front of his shop with the keys under the floormat for me to pick up. yeah. he didn't get shit.
