Any decent free computer software for OBDII scanners?

I'd like to pick up one of those cheapo bluetooth scanners to use with my laptop. I don't have a smart phone so I'm stuck with a computer. The few I've come across seem kinda crappy and they all talk about serial connections.

Every one of those scanners I played with acts as a bluetooth serial port.

Get a smartphone. The older ones are super cheap on cl and ebay. If you're only going to use it for diagnostics the only thing that matters is if it's supported.

check the auction details... my cheapie bluetooth OBD II reader came with some basic PC software on a mini CD, so you may not need to find/buy anything else for basic display

but i 2nd the smartphone suggestion. The Torque App is very cool.

hmmm didn't even consider buying a cell phone just for torque but maybe

one of those would be even better? I could use a new MP3 playing too which would help me justify it.

This. I've got a cheapo ELM327 scanner and it came with the mini CD as well. I'm happy with the free version of Torque as well.
