High Pitch Noise on boot

Was watching TV via Vista Media center and all of a sudden sparks flew out the back of my PC and the system shut off. Unplugged everything and the 500w PSU smelled burnt so I pulled it out.

I put in a spare 400w PSU but it doesn't have the connection for the aux power on the video card. I tried booting up anyways and soon as I press the power button the system lets off a loud high pitch noise.

Here are my system specs:

Q6600 @ 3.0GHz (was running 100% load at the time)
Gigabyte DS3 Mobo
4GB DDR2
nVidia 8800GTS (no SLI)
4x Internal HD's
2x TV Tuner Cards

Not sure if the high pitch is coming from the PSU, Mobo, or video card but its pretty darn loud!

Old PSU was a RaidMax 500w unit.. one I am trying now came with the case and is a NZXT 400w unit, only has the standard 24 pin ATX and 4pin aux mobo, no videocard power connector.

Didn't the 8800 come with a 6 pin to molex power connector adapter?

Anyway, I would try unplugging everything but the mobo + cpu. and your going to want a proper replacement PSU eventually.

My 8800 GTX Superclocked did. 6pin - 4pin and it worked fine.

I wonder if the beep your getting is the bios beep error for no video?

Do you actually get video without the power hooked up?

The beeping is your system voicing it's complaint about your video card not having enough power. It has the aux power connectors because it can't pull sufficient power over the PCI-E connector. Find a way to power the card. I've gotten the same beeping in the past when I've forgotten to plug my 8800 back in after working on the system.
