MAC OSX Laptop Not Fixable?

I have a MAC OSX laptop (macbook or we) that freezes at the Grey Apple boot up screen.

I tried booting from disc with the original CD's to no avail.

What can I do?

Even if it's out of warranty, if there is an Apple Store near you, just make an appointment to see someone at the Genius Bar.

"macbook or whatever". It's not like it's hard since they all have the name under the display.

Try holding down the alt (or option) key when booting with the cd. It should give you a list of bootable volumes.

I know - you feel like such a tool when you actually need to talk to them for something (like a warranty repair, etc). I want to wear a shirt that says, "I'm not retarded" or something.

... this is nothing new. They've been doing it since they started building the apple store chain, I think.
