DIR-655 Wireless Problems

I've been having some problems with my DIR-655 and wireless. Yesterday my router seemed to be dropping the internet connection constantly, so after trying to reboot and router and modem, I updated the firmware from 1.11 (I think) to 1.21. The problems dropping the internet connection seem to be gone, but now my wireless devices keep dropping and reconnecting their signal almost immediately. I bought the router in September and had no problems until yesterday.

I'm set to channel 1, WPA2-PSK (AES), turned off WPS. I'm trying to troubleshoot it with XP, but a Vista machine is having the same problems. I've tried searching online and can't seem to get anywhere with any advice.

edit:

Seems like "Wireless restart", "Authentication Failed" and "Received Deauthentication" are showing up a lot in the logs.

I am in a similar situation. If I turn on (WPA2 G and N only) wireless it will continously reset the connection and it's very difficult to turn wireless off after that. I don't even remember what I did last time to get in there. I'm using 1.21. Apparently similar problems have arisen across the board, but I've heard of no solution (other then the usual, update firmware, reboot, RMA, etc.) Hopefully someone else has a solution =).

Okay so I reverted back to 1.11, got the same problems I was having yesterday with the router basically losing its connection with the modem (both wired and wireless internet access went away).

Installed 1.20, and after reconfiguring seems to be working now (note that I didn't play with any new settings). Odd.

Now running: WPA2-PSK (AES), WPS disabled, mixed b/g, channel 1. I did run through the setup wizard and cloned the MAC address of a PC that I directly connected to the modem, not sure if this actually did anything.

Nope, not fixed... turning off encryption altogether seems to work, but that isn't a good solution since I live next to a bunch of people and businesses that offer wifi.

Does anyone else, have any ideas? I don't want to start messing with settings on my own, as the last time I tried that I couldn't get it connected very easily. Now that I think about it, I may have just reset it back then.

El aye do you have any other wireless devices around? Consoles, other routers, etc.?

I have a 655 running the latest firmware and my machine(Vista Ultimate 64) was really the only one throwing problems...I eventually narrowed it down to the shitty Netgear USB wifi card I bought. I ran a cable to my machine instead, and my roommates on a XP laptop with intel wireless and a MBP have had zero wireless problems.

So I guess I dont really know. FWIW my wireless security is on auto WPA(uses either WPA or WPA2 with TKIP/AES respectively) with no WPS.

hell, I'm still running 1.10

unless I develop some problem that they address in the firmware or a new feature is introduced that I HAVE to have, I tend to stick with whatever firmware works for me

Unfortunately "get a cisco router" isn't a fucking solution. It's an alternative. I don't think El Aye said he wanted an alternative router.

Anyone else, not retarded, have any ideas?

heres an idea, dont ever buy anything that says D-link, belkin, or netgear. If you already have, hit yourself in the head, proceed to burn said device and get a real router. Is that solution enough for you?

That's not a solution you ignorant fuck. This is , not the main forum. Go read the rules or something, be helpful, not a dick.

edit: I got all sidetracked:

I've shut off every electronic in my house and worked my way back. The way mine is setup (dunno bout el-aye)

is the following:

DIR-655 broadcasting above specs (off now.) connected to a DHCP-less DI-634M which broadcasts b/g, for b things (PSP, old ibook, etc.)

Both were having the exact same problem at once, but I fixed the DI-634M, by doing the above and worked my way back shutting off/turning on the electronics in order. However, the 655 continued to behave oddly. No ideas?
