Laptop dilemma

So, I want a 12" laptop with 2gb ram (or possibility to upgrade to 2gb), after hours of trawling the shitnooks of the web and finding nothing but smoke and mirrors and retardedly complex productnames/models and less reviews then I honestly thought was possible, i've narrowed it down to these two: (I think)

Packard Bell Easynote BG45U-024 C2D 2330 12,1"/1GB/160GB/WLAN/VHP
(On the condition that you can upgrade the ram)
Cant find ONE decent review of this in anything resembling english

FUJITSU SIEMENS Esprimo Mobile U9200
This has the drawback that its not in stock in any netshop I have access to, but if its the only good alternative I can wait.

My use is going to be word documents, surfing, SPSS and some media-program.
I want this pc to last a while (couple of years in the least) and something in the ~$700 priceclass. Cheap is good but I'll stretch to $750 if I have to.

What I'm looking for is
a) input on these two models
b) advice on other models if possible

Thank you for your time

Ps: I was disgusted at the amount of confusion and muddied waters the laptop fishtank contains. Very few comprehensive meta-hubs that do reviews of any fair number of laptops (or just the ones im looking for )

I you don't mind going even smaller I'd look into netbooks. Especially if you are not using it for anything powerful.

um i'm pretty sure packard bell exited the north american market like, years ago dude

might want to bump that 12" requirement up to 13.3" or buy a netbook because these days anything less than 13" will be a netbook, or be crazy expensive

dell outlet?

Inspiron/Studio/XPS (Home)
http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineS...=22&l=en&s=dfh

Vostro/Latitude (Business)
http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineS...=28&l=en&s=dfb

select 12.1 inch, click filter results, then list by price

Then use 8BGMRK5FJ?P$3C coupon for extra 20% off (expires in a week so hurry)

edit: I see a near decked out XPS M1210 for under $700 after coupon
and some pretty slick Latitude E4200s with 64GB SSD for around that price too

edit2: assuming you're in the USA

you mean packard hell

they were awful 15 years ago, they're awful now.

Even if they've been exiled to third world country-only sales.

This. Build quality on the Latitude line is phenomenal, and these machines are a bargain on ebay.

You can routinely get D420s on ebay with ~1year of NBD warranty left for $300-350. 1.2ghz Core Duo, fairly capable machine.

D430s run a bit more, but usually have longer warranty and come with Core 2 Duo. I picked up a D430 with about 2 years of Complete Care NBD warranty last week for $540 shipped.
Core2Duo 1.2ghz, 1.5gb RAM, 32gb SSD, 9 cell battery... hard to beat the price. If you check frequently and are patient, you can find similar models for around this price. I saw a couple last week go for $400-$500 BIN, but I stuck it out for the accidental damage warranty.

That's what I wanted to type out but was too lazy . I'd also add that the screen has a nice 1280 x 800 res (very good for 12"). I'm selling my netbook to get a D420 myself.
