Laptop problem

So I had a nice 17" laptop, a xxodd 8227d ( wich is a laptop sold under many names)
anyway specs can be found here:
http://www.hardware.info/en-UK/produ...227d/index.php

the problem is, my screen is busted because my mouse got between my screen and my keyboard when I put some laundry on there.
so now I have to buy a new one, but the thing is, there is still a lot of stuff on the harddisk that I want to have.

So I was wondering if a hdd from a laptop can be connected with a normal desktop pc, so I can just get the harddisk out and copy the files to my desktop??

or is it just easier to just buy a cable and connect the thing to a tv so you can transfer the files to a usb hdd?

there should be at least a vga port on the laptop. connect it to a monitor and use it that way.

edit: do you have a monitor or is the laptop your only computer?

can't find anything besides a dvi-i-port out and a hdmi port.

so you think i can get that working without having to see what i'm doing?

Yea, connect one of those to a TV/monitor and you should be fine to transfer files.
