also, 1) he said classic american steel 2) he said a '68 Mustang GT, i would argue that there is no other car out there that has more of an aftermarket or more of a knowledge base, i know that i've never seen a Civic Club of America sticker out there

Never said anything about which would be harder or easier to work on.

Plenty of options to chose from, the civic was simply a hypothetical.

Googlefight is seriously the only response you have?
I guess if you count all the ebay auctions for APC stuff...

To be on topic, classic Mustangs have libraries built around how to restore and repair them, and dozens of warehouses and companies that supply old unused parts, or reproduced parts.
You could do much much worse when choosing a classic, and while w_a_w has some good points on the classic Merc Cougar, its rare enough to see them that itll be a little more difficult to restore

If I want to find out what is wrong with my car I just plug in my computer and it tells me where it hurts.

Also modern =/= disposable.

They've always had cheap shitboxes and nice cars that will remain desireable for a long time, in any era.

Pick up something like a Miata or a E30 BMW.

Great aftermarket, modern, good resources on the web (forums, videos, etc).

I learned everything about wrenching on my old Miata
