As long as my owning it does not cause direct undue harm to others everyone should be allowed to own any damn thing they want, untill they show that the can not be trusted owning it.

Like I said I use 3 computers on a day to day basis... whereas a firearm will only be used if you go someplace to shoot it at targets or if someone is trying to get all up in your grill. I feel like I'm being hypocritical or seeing a catch-22 with weapons since if you have one it'd be useless for most of the time but at the same time those with weapons have the upper hand in a rough situation. Comparing it to TV's and cars may be slightly different as a car is really just cushioning to make your drive more pleasant. I guess I just can't see the actual point in having one other than protection but even then the way I see it that depends on where you are in which you would actually need it in a bad situation. I never hear about how someone used a gun properly for defense because the news will only broadcast shit about misuse and people dying... never anything righteous unless it was like saving a cat.

The thing is if I used it as defense against someone with no firearm wouldn't the tables turn against me?

depends on the circumstances, you could be totally justified in many different situations

if you're in a fair fight with a criminal, you're doing something wrong.

because it's better to be on this side of a .357 mag

first 3 are the 125gr. bonded JHP, 2nd 3 are 200gr. Wide Flat Nose Gas Check Hardcast

I will never be sorry for protecting my family. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6

1. Because I enjoy owning and shooting them, and I can. This is the main reason.
2. Possible self-protection and/or SHTF scenarios. Does not mean I'm paranoid. I have a fire extinguisher, but I do not live in fear of fires, but I damned sure would rather have one and never need it, then find myself needing and being without.
3. Staying proficient and knowledgeable with firearms is part of my chosen profession and therefore my duty to do so.
4. It pisses off liberals.

It depends on where you live. Shitty answer, I know, but Castle Doctrine and its various derivatives are complicated. Florida is thankfully pretty clear cut as far as home defense, ie you can shoot an unarmed person who has forcibly broken into your home or occupied vehicle AND he or his surviving family can't sue you about it (if they try, you are, by law, awarded the cost of your defense). My understanding is that the act of forcibly breaking in is automatically interpreted as intent to commit violence.

well ive been shooting darn near continually since i was about 5 im 37 now. Ive inherited and collected such a wide variety of toys that most folks would splooge over them.

but in my case interests change, I still kinda like going out once in a great while. But shooting as a whole just doesn't have the same appeal as it once did.

I hunt geese. Once a year it's an escape of everyday life. I don't really enjoy guns, or care to own any. I have relatives that provide the space (Northern Alberta, Canada), and a shotgun.

However, in about three or four months, I'll be moving to an even more remote area of Canada. Lots of hunting available, and "fresh" farm meat will be tough to get. I may look into rifles and shotguns.

I'll join you in this subforum soon. We'll promote the shit out of our pro-hunting agenda.

PS
I'll have my firearms acquisitions certificate before I move.
