[M] I need advice on a job....v.again.

So, I have a job offer for this job.

Making 20/hr contract-to-hire.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=10250+...en&sa=N&tab=wl
Link works for the job site. Copy paste directions for 1317 North Main St Summerville, SC 29483

It's a 2 hour commute. I want your advice on what you would do?

I have a few ideas:

1) Drive up there Sunday, get cheap hotel for the week, drive back on the weekend.
2) Same as one, but craigslist room for rent.
3) Same as one, but cheeeeeeap apt (found some for 400-600 a month.
4) Drive there every day to and from.

My Lexus gets 20mpg in the stop and go madness that is my local town. Highway would improve.

I do not think or feel a job offer like this will come around again for me, locally or out of town. This job will be the most I have ever made. And its almost double what I make now.

I have roommates in my current living quarters so I am ok with doing whatever.

Horrid part is waking up 3 hours early just to get to work.....but I could do it.

I am just not wanting to move right now because I do have a son, and there is a lot of drama going down with that as well. I will fight for join custody soon.....just unsure how that will work with me being in another city 2 hours away.....

Hope this make sense and hope that link works from my house to the job site.

thanks

Kinda what I am thinking. However some of the apt's in Columbia SC are kinda cheap per month......I don't think I want a room for rent because of privacy because I will be back in Charleston (2hrs away) for the weekend to see my son.

2 hour commute for $20/hour? no. fucking. way.

my buddy makes $25/hour and commutes to work 5 days a week 1.5 hours each way. he says after the cost of gas he's netting about $12.50/hour plus he loses those 3 hours he spends on the road everyday.

if the job is only temporarily on a contract basis and sooner, rather than later, you will be hired on and making more money you should go with option #2 and rent a room with some people your age.

Yeah, waking up 3 hours early sucks. So I think maybe getting a decent apt and just driving down for the weekends......

5.25 galls one way.....so that's 20 bucks worth of gas for me (have to use 93). So 2 hours of actual work it would cost per day for me to drive to and from.

i did a 2-2/5 hr commute for about a year... so totaling 4-5 hrs a day, although it was via public transit mostly.

you'll hate yourself within a few months, guaranteed.

This.

I commuted for an hour each way for 26$ an hour and it was worthless. All my money went to fuel.

Move closer, or find a long term stay, or apartment, or a room to rent closer.

Don't take this job, it is too far away from your home and it is only $20/hour and also contract.

How long is the contract for? if its longer than a few weeks than you should move closer (look into subleasing)

This job is no where near worth it as far as driving there every day, and even cheap motels etc are 40 bucks or so a day

Thanks for all the replies fellas!

Well after the interview (which I think went great!) I found out it will not be where I had originally thought.

Just the interview is happening 2 hours away. I will be working about 30-40 min drive away.

So I can still stay where I am at.....with a little commute. And its all highway.

If I get the job, expect a big reply from me......this will be a lifestyle, personal, emotional, and all around great change for me.......my path towards a career will begin!
