move offer from a prospective job?

what would be a decent move offer?
There's a job offer in florida but I currently live in massachusetts, so I'd essentially be moving across the country, I can worry about the logistics myself, but I was told by an employee at the job now that I should expect a "move offer."

So that I'm prepared, is it essentially just a lump of cash to find a place? Is it based on anything? salary? Is it expected to be paid back, or no?

"move offer" generally means they will pay a certain amount of your moving expenses as incentive for you to take the job. You almost never have to pay that back.

Generally they'll pony up some dough for you to cover some/all/more than your moving expenses. Oftentimes you'll have to sign some kind of contract with them indicating you'll work with them for some period of time and if you dip early you'll have to repay them the relocation money.

How'd it work out? from my experience, it depends upon the level of the position you are exception. If it's a director or higher position, they will probably pony up the money for a company to come pack you up and move you..
If its a little lower than that, then they will most likely give you a lump sum. Either way I'd push for a lump sum. I took a lump sum with a sign on bonus and was able to make out pretty well.
Good luck

I have to look after my parents who are ready to kill each other / themselves, it wouldn't make sense to move so far away.

So you turned down a good career move? That sucks, not trying to make you angry but your parents should be more responsible and not hold you back from moving forward with your life.
