I hope MSFT buys BIDU instead, although they'd probably have to pay almost as much.

XM/SIRI is pretty played out. There is a good chance the deal will go through I think, but hard to say if you'll see as much of a jump as most people think.

But it ended way too suddenly and the two sides simply weren't that far apart. Ballmer and Yang, more so Yang, will be under incredible pressure from their stockholders to get something done. In Yang's case, the pressure will likely be legal. If he comes slinking back to the table saying he'll accept, say, 30 a share or less, then Ballmer pretty much has his hands tied. Even 28 would be a nice premium now. Not saying that it's going to happen, but it certainly could and that's why YHOO is still trading above 18.

Yahoo would look pretty pathetic if they came back begging for a lower offer. I don't really see that happening.

It might very well be a choice between pathetic or out of business. Shareholder lawsuits are nasty, nasty things, and the Yahoo shareholders seem to have a pretty good point on this one.

CSCO sharholders for the last 5 years have pretty much wasted their money and virtually lost money on opportunity costs. The stock is up $5 in 5 years. Thats 20% in five years. Thats less than 5% per year. You probably were better off buying a 5 year Cd paying 6-7% or some tax free muni-bonds. They have really disappointed shareholders.

CSCO is up 11.94 (adjusted for splits and dividends), or 88.26%, which is 17.652% annualized average, which still outperforms the S&P 500.

Actual size of my penis.

I bet you this was Ballmer's plan all along after he saw the least bit of resistence from Yang.

Heh whoops, you are right. The loss just gets carried forward. Which doesnt make much difference unless the wash overlaps the end of the year and you wanted to use the deduction towards your current tax year. I had a brain fart and forgot how this all works. Probably because I had no wash sales to deal with in '07. Previously I shared in the joys of untangling strings of wash sales within multiple lots and multiple accounts. fun.

Yep, people make too much of the wash sale rule. It's actually a very fair law, in my opinion.

What's driving this tech rally today?
AMD's lawsuit can't be pushing everything green...
