I'd suggest somewhere where a water supply cannot be contaminated from upstream and fallout if any would be minimal. That excludes the whole of the mississipi river watershed and most coastal areas. Appalachains or some other mountainous area would be best. Open areas are bad for many reasons. Plenty of natural resources and cover.

You are all welcome to my neck of the woods, Oklahoma. The Quachita Mountains south of here are currently rated by the EPA to have the absolute cleanest air of anywhere in the country. I know where alot of the streams and rivers are, and natural springs are abundant and flow water all the time. It's warm here most of the time, we only get snow maybe twice a year.

Anywhere north of here and it's too damn cold. Anywhere south and it's too flat and windy.

Do you own land? If some members here had a few acres in a rural area we could hold our first genmay survival meet!

I'm in VA. I've got 100 acres of farm/wooded land. I'm adjacent to 1500 acres of paper mill logging land that is occupied for about a week every 12 years.

There's already a utopia of freedom-minded and disaster-prepared people forming here on the east coast. It's a little far removed for those of you out on the left coast, but I can guarantee you it'll be the first fortress when the shit hits the fan.

Just a 5 acre horse pasture. Nothing survival like. But i've got a 1.7 million acre National Forest about 30 miles south of my house that is where I plan to go if the shit goes down. Nothing around here that any invading force would want...Plenty of places to hunker down, abundant wildlife to consume and use to build shelters, and thousands of natural springs and creeks for fresh, clean water. I would certainly welcome anyone that wanted to come down and spend a weekend or so roughing it.

for all the PDX people, the mcd's off glencoe rd and 26 on the west side - north plains area

the coast range is like 20 mins out from there, and plenty of land to survive on.

That is because it is somewhat undesirable land, particularly in a survival situation.

A location needs to have, for starters...

-Moving water, river or a couple good size streams.
-Forests, an abundance of wood would be necessary for construction of a long term camp as well as fuel for cooking, boiling water, heat, sometimes light, and various other things.
-Abundant wild game.
-Good defensibility.

Anyone want to change/add to my list?

The trick will be finding a place that has these things in enough supply for however many people we would have + is not so desirable that we would have recurring conflict over the land.

The problem with your list, is that the majority of locations with those characteristics also come with 4-6 months of brutal winter...
