welcome to the club. Please tell me you shot .357 before. If not, it's going to have quite a bite.

I've shot a .45 revolver and it was quite scary. I am going to get my wife and I used to shooting .38's first- then work our way up to the fun .357 hot loads.

For a .45, I prefer my 1911. It does pack a punch, but it's quite accurate.

With good JHP ammo (not my pic):

I wanted something small and reliable that both my wife and I could use as a handgun for home defense. There is no more than 5 yards available for a shot so the gun I bought should be pretty idiot proof.

Invest in a CrimsonTrace grip and make it even more idiot proof. Try aiming in the dark and you'll see why one would help. My father has a 5 shot 38 with a CT grip (he's getting old and can't handle the punch of a .357 anymore) and he loves it.

ive never been a big proponant of dot sights, especially for noobs. IME one can become very dependant on them. Then on that ONE time the battery dies or the things become loose your SOL because you didnt become well versed in the use of iron sights.

IMO...
get a set of tritium night sights and practice practice practice using the irons. THEN when you have obtained nirvanna with your irons you can play with laser sights.

just my .02

I will strart with the gun as is. I have very good night vision, but my wife doesn't. A laser won't help her if she can't see the target to begin with. In either event I believe in learning how to use a weapon as is. We'll save the fancy stuff for later...

Nice! I'm a big fan of Taurus, but I've heard hit or miss reviews on them. Some people have trouble, I'm one of the ones that never had. You won't be disappointed.

Mmmm Black Talons. I load my 1911 with Winchester Supreme PDX1 JHP's, the "politically correct" Black Talon. Mean looking bullets. I love em'.
