Weight loss thread.

Evenin' everyone. I need a place to log this and I suppose this is as good a place as any.

Quick rundown on me: The last time I exercised regularly was August of 2005. At that point in time I was a pretty strong dude; I benched around 385lbs and DL and squat were both over 500. I could do pullups with 70lbs strapped to me for a set of 5. I weighed about 230lbs. Bodyfat was probably around 20%, maybe just under. I was not really in good shape though-- I did no cardio.

Flash forward to today, I'm even worse. I didn't lift for about four years and ate terrible and drank too much. I've gone to the gym here and there over the last few months and I've seen some results (i.e. I can at least bench press around 275 again), but it's been fairly inconsistent. I'm not a complete wuss, but I'm still pretty bad. I'm definitely fatter than I was. I'm guessing I'm around 24% bf now. I want to be lean. I carry a lot of weight in my face and that makes me look a lot fatter than I really am, I'm tired of being a fat ass. I weighed myself last Friday in my gym clothes and I weighed 224.4lbs.

So the goal is to get down to 190lbs. I've decided my method of fat loss is going to be the tabata method. I bought a 20kg kettlebell and I've been doing kettlebell swings. Holy shit are they killer!

Monday: Was day one; I made it through 5 intervals and then switched to jumping jacks because I wanted to make it to at least 6 intervals, I ended up doing 2 intervals of jumping jacks before I collapsed on the ground. 7 total intervals.

Tuesday: I did 5 again and did 2 intervals of jumping jacks and did 1 more interval of KB swings to finish up the 8 intervals. 8 total.

I took Wednesday off because I was absolutely beat.

Thursday: I made it through all 8 intervals with the KB swings. I laid on the ground pouring with sweat for the next 20 minutes, the first 6 or 7 minutes I was sucking wind. These things are easily some of the most difficult things I have ever done. My back is fucking SORE today. 8 total intervals.

Friday: I made it into the gym today (I'm probably only going to work out friday/sat/monday due to a hectic school schedule). I did my tabata workout on the bike. It was a completely different kind of workout but damn if it wasn't just as hard (I actually took a 20 second rest on 2 of the intervals, so I suppose I cheated). 8 total intervals.

I'll probably do something tomorrow, but I'm not feeling up for the kb swings, my back will probably still be really sore. Maybe I'll do mountain climbers or something.

I weighed myself today and weighed 219.6. I imagine that part of that might be due to various fluctuations in bodyweight, but I'm hoping that I lost at least 2 or 3lbs. I'd like to lose about 10lbs a month, ending up with 30lbs lost by the end of the semester in May.

I'm not doing any kind of special diet, just cleaned it up. I'm not eating any beef, just chicken and turkey. I try to frontload my carbs and eat very little carbs after 5-6pm. My diet is fairly high in fat, but all of it is coming from avocados, nuts and hummus. I'll add a small amount of skim milk to my coffee in the morning, but I don't add any sugar. I've cut out all alcohol. I do eat a few pieces of fruit a day and I'll have a glass of grapefruit juice in the morning sometimes.

I'm also doing an ECA stack. Once my ephedrine hcl runs out I plan on switching to the yohimbine hcl I have.

Here's a picture of how I look now: http://i50.tinypic.com/2v9q5h2.jpg

I had just got done working out, so I look a little bigger than I really am.

Well, that's about it. If any of you have any good advice, feel free to chime in.

10lbs a month isn't impossible. I've lost about 10 the past month myself. I'm looking to get to about the same weight as you. I'm currently hovering around 200lbs. Ideally I'd like to get myself down to 185 or 180. But when I weighed in at 198, under 200 for the first time in years, it was awesome.

Good to hear! I thought 10lbs a month sounded like a reasonable goal. I've heard of people losing more a lot faster, but I question how healthy that is.

Unless of course, you're severely overweight. I don't think I'm severely overweight though.

Update.

So far not much weight loss. Maybe I haven't cut my calories enough but my diet is definitely a lot cleaner. It could also be that I'm gaining muscle since I hadn't really been lifting and I'm now lifting consistently.

My diet so far has been as follows:

Breakfast: 2-3 eggs with 2 slices of turkey bacon, a whole wheat pita with a hummus spread, tomato slices and 1/4 of an avocado. I'll have a glass of grapefruit juice 2-3x a week with this. Perhaps I should cut out all egg yolks except for one. I also occasionally will eat a cup of oatmeal mixed with a few tbsp of raisins and a teaspoon or two of honey.

Snack: 3 tablespoons of mixed nuts and an orange/banana

Lunch: Turkey (3-4oz) sandwich on whole grain bread, romaine lettuce tomato slices and 1/4 of an avocado, and I'll eat another piece of fruit here.

Snack: Shake with 1 cup of 1% milk, a scoop of ON Whey, 1 tbsp of peanut butter. Perhaps cut out the peanut butter here.

Dinner: Chicken breast or fish with half a bag of frozen veggies, steamed.

Bedtime: 1 scoop of ON whey mixed in water.

I've only been drinking water or coffee. If I drink coffee I only add a little milk and no sugar.

What do you guys think? Any advice here? I realize it's only been 10-11 days, I'm just impatient. Does anyone have any experience with the tabata method for weightloss?

i have a thread going on too .. 333lbs now, 6'4.. if i can get down below 300 by my 28th birthday (june 16) i will be so happy.

ultimately i want to be around 250 or so.

diet has changed night and day from what i used to eat, i tried counting calories but that was too aggravating, but i did for for long enough to get a hang of what i should be eating..

breakfast = 1 bowl cereal (special K granola, fiber one or cheerios)
Lunch = turkey breast sandwich on wheat, some chips and a granola bar
Dinner = whatever the wife fixes, usually not too unhealthy

the biggest thing is PORTION CONTROL. I have cut out every beverage but water. no soda/beer/wine/tea/coffee no white bread, never been much of a dessert guy so that's not changed. Ill still go out to eat with my wife sometimes.

I to have the 20lbs kettleballs and i love them. I go to the gym for cardio all my weights i do at house with my 2 balls and push ups

im thinking of trying with whey protein stuff but weary because my goal is weight loss, not muscle building, im happy with my strength. that will change once i gotta try to turn all this loose skin ill have into muscle though

Protein intake doesn't really seem high enough and it's only 3 meals a day. I don't want to lose a ton of muscle.

My weight is still the same this week. However, my pants have been feeling loose and I went and purchased a pair of 34's (I was wearing 36's) and the 34's fit perfectly. I haven't worn 34's in who knows how long. Apparently I am leaning up. Not sure how I'm managing to lose fat and build muscle at the same time, but that's the only thing I can think of that is happening.

not to change the direction of the thread, but does alcohol really inhibit fat loss? and not just like beer, but whiskey, vodka, wine, etc.

While your body is processing alcohol, it basically shuts down fat metabolism because your liver is working on the alcohol instead. Alcohol also added a decent amount of extra calories that have to get burned off.

same thing's with me. a year ago i was doing 20 rep pullups, but after eating out, drinking, and hardly exercising i was barely able to do 4. restarted p90x (6 days a week) and shifted my diet and i'm still weighing the same after 2 weeks, but definitely look and feel better already and muscle is coming back; i too deduce it's fat loss and muscle building. i don't expect to see a solid 5 pound drop for a couple more weeks, so don't fret - it'll come with time and perseverance!

Sorry to thread jack - but can you tell me what equipment is required for this p90x business? I couldn't find that information on their website.
