I really feel like killing myself (serious)

What's bugging me is I have TMJ disorder and have had ever since I was 14 (19 now). It is basically were your your lower jaw doesn't fit in well with your upper jaw. Although many have it to some degree (your jaw ever pop?) I have it bad. I am in constant pain, It is impossible to take my mind off it. Imagine having the worst ear ache of your entire life for 5 YEARS 24/7. My parents don't seem to understand the constant pain i'm in. The doctors I've been to can't or don't want to help. And the worst thing is it doesn't get better with time. It either worsens or stays the same. So imagine having you live with the knowlage that this awful pain, which is always the main thing in your mind, will be with you till the end. It's so bad that I can't enjoy anything anymore and I really havent for the past 5 years. I just can't see the point of living when you know however much time you have left is just going to be filled with pain and nothing else. It's so bad some days that I don't have the energy to go to my volunteer job, or even get dressed or even eat. It takes all my energy just to lay in bed watching TV like a vegtable and I've biked 5 miles in oklahoma summer before. I really can't believe this has happened to me. This disease has been eating my soul for the past 5 years and it's not going to stop. It's already gobbled up my entire emotional 'body' and if feels like now it's going after my physical one .

I really can't put into words how bad this is. People my age often consider suicide becuase of something stupid like they failed a course or thier girlfriend broke up with them or something that can change. In the five years I've had this all sorts of stuff good and bad have happened to me - I've graduated HS, got my first job, won schollarships, seen family in two different countries , get in arguments with my parents, and even make my sister cry a couple of times, but none of it mattered to me becuase of the awful disease. It almost feels like I'm slowly dying.

I remeber the day the depression set in, I was a couple of weeks into my Junior year in HS and I felt the rain clouds gathering....all the pain just made me give up.

I want to tell people how bad I feel but all they want to do is give me hugs and treat me nice. That doesn' t solve a damned thing

Has anyone ever been cured of this or even known someone that has known someone? Please...I need hope. I can't live like this anymore.

I stick my fingers up my ass... then smell them
jesus christ, have you really sat down and told a doctor/dentist or anything how bad this really is?

Try asking if there's ANYTHING to cure or lessen the pain because it's so bad. Sounds like noone understand how serious the pain is because you don't tell them.

There should definitely be some kind of surgery for it

Now that you mention this I remember being checked for TMJ my Freshman year in High School, right before I got braces. My jaw had always popped on the right side. It was very loud, but not painful. I've had migraines from age 10-13, then they stopped, but for the past year they've returned. I didn't really think of a connection until now. About a year ago both sides started to pop, and I notice that my jaw pops when I move my jaw slightly.

I think I'm going to get it checked out. I'll let you know what I find out. It's been causing a lot of trouble for me with college lately. Maybe we're in the same boat?

MJ isn't in TMJ for no reason. No matter what you may think of it, if you're that low and need a solution, that's an option. You can also see what painkillers the doctor can offer, then make your call on what is more effective with fewest side effects.

I'm a pathetic virgin.
go see an orthodonist or a oral surgeon. In the mean while, try to rough it out, the pain is only temporary.
you touched a fusebox on an S-class.... I hope you have a double major in Engineering and IT, with a minor in German.... -

I don't see why you have let this drag on for FIVE YEARS? Go tell a doctor about it and demand it be fixed at whatever cost.

yeah.. I have TMJ, too.. some days it absolutely drives me up the wall. Mine isn't quite as bad as yours sounds, and it only reared its ugly head this past December, but I do know how you're feeling. The retainer thing is called a nightguard... it helps, but it won't solve all your problems. But I really suggest you find a new dentist.

Same here,

My dentist said that my TMJ most likely started by me grinding my teeth at night. He gave me a nightguard and well, I haven't seen anyone else about it. Usually applying heat or taking advil temproarily fixes it for me.
