It's simply greed. We know that utility is gained not by what you have, but by what you have in relation to others.

I'm being fucked right now by a CEO, along with a dozen other employees. Our company is out of money, thanks to years of bilking by this aforementioned CEO. Basically, lie to investors to get a million or so in capital, funnel most of that into his own pockets, and leave the company with pocket change to operate. Rinse and repeat, now the cap table is so toxic that nobody will fall for it... and our operating capital has been so low that the company downsized from 40 employees to 8.

A lower manager worked out a deal for an acquisition which would ensure that all employees remain employed... but the CEO is blocking the deal. He won't sign the papers until the new company agrees to put himself, along with two of his rich buddies, on the payroll for... wait for it... $250,000/yr each.

This guy has absolutely no qualms with putting a dozen hard working honest people out of a job... just to line his pockets even more.

He's of the same ilk that furlough a few thousand employees to raise quarterly profits and secure a personal bonus.

Scumbags, all of them.

Killing rich people would be a good start I guess. I know it's a hassle, but it also employs people. I mean, if by a rough estimate the US hosts 300 million people and you take the top 1%, that leaves us with 3 million people to be put to eternal sleep. Think of the possibilities! You need to build camps for them, obviously executing them is a pretty big task to do, plus you need qualified personnel to incinerate 3 million people.

Damnit

I was hoping to be innovative, but it seems like this idea was already thought of.

I don't think Apple deserves the credit they are getting lately. Not anymore than Exxon or Shell or something. Except we need oil a whole lot more than a jumbo iPod with wireless internet.

I was most definitely not idolizing that fuckhead. Hell, did you know that he didn't even acknowledge the existence of his own children for two years? He told his wife there was no way they were and, and that he was sterile and claimed she must have cheated on him. Finally a DNA test convinced him. He's a scumbag in his business and his personal life. If there is a hell, he's got a seat in the worst part of it. He's the type of person where you celebrate their death, not mourn it like the millions of Apple lovers out there.

I'm copying this from an LA times blog... it's a comment on the situation in california which i thought was quite interesting... i dont know how much truth there is to it though... I'm just going to leave it here for you to play with....

Quote:
1) Nearly the highest state income tax in the nation.
2) Nearly the highest property taxes in the nation. (some saved by prop 13)
3) Nearly the highest yearly vehicle registration fees in the nation. (Texas is $60.00 for a new vehicle)
4) Nearly the highest Gas prices in the nation. (.60 cents/gal higher than Texas)
5) Nearly the highest sales tax in the nation
6) The "Dream Act".
7) Mandatory "Gay ,Lesbian, Transgender" classes in grade school.
8) The highest "Illegal" population in the nation per capita.
9) More rules and regulations CONTROLLING our Lives than any other state.
10) 30% of the nations "Welfare " cases, with only 10% of the population.
11) Nearly the highest electricity costs in the nation. (40% higher than most states, which KILLS manufacturing jobs))
12) More regulations on businesses than any other state
13) And last but not least...12.3% unemployment, soon to go much higher.
Also this regarding pensions, which could be applied to the whole country...
Quote:
http://www.vanityfair.com/business/f...l-lewis-201111
“It shows that the city’s [San Jose’s] pension costs when he first became interested in the subject were projected to run $73 million a year. This year they would be $245 million: pension and health-care costs of retired workers now are more than half the budget. In three years’ time pension costs alone would come to $400 million, though “if you were to adjust for real life expectancy it is more like $650 million.” Legally obliged to meet these costs, the city can respond only by cutting elsewhere. As a result, San Jose, once run by 7,450 city workers, was now being run by 5,400 city workers. The city was back to staffing levels of 1988, when it had a quarter of a million fewer residents… By 2014, Reed had calculated, a city of a million people, the 10th-largest city in the United States, would be serviced by 1,600 public workers.”
This is what's waiting for Los Angeles. In 2015, public employee retirement costs will consume 30% of the entire budget. In 2020, retirement costs will consume over50% of the budget. Massive employee cutbacks are going to begin 2014-2015, but nobody wants to talk about it.

what are your thoughts on pensions....

public sector pensions are bloated (i'm looking at NYPD cops especially, 20 years out they retire with full salary for life)

i dunno.

on one hand it will catch up to bite us in the ass (ala greece and their ridiculous pension programs)

but on the other hand some people (at least cops) do deserve a lil more from us as a society.

catch 22.

the only amicable solution i can think of is to increase the retirement age.

remember, if you adjust 1930s SS for life expectancy, the "correct" age to retire would be 75...

No the correct thing to do would be for you to stop giving advice.

75? Yea, that's fucking great.

Retirement age of 75 may suck but it's necessary, simply because people are living much longer lives.
