Yes - sorry I'll try to do that. What I was emphasizing last night was I got past a "It's my fault and I can fix it" stage to just learning this. Like I said im 3 hours away, and about to graduate. As much as I want to worry tremendously about this now, I just can't at this particular moment.

Like I said - lot of connections were made. Shes desperate for money - yet can't ever get a job. What the hell else is a needle doing in a purse? But I agree - let's not rule out everything just because of a few things. Problem is saying "could you roll up your sleeves for us?" isn't going to result in those sleeves being rolled...

Is it me or is there no back story for the dad/husband? Is he a very important player in all this. I doubt CPS can do anything if the dad is stable.

If someone gave you bad news and you risked breaking your hand punching a wall/want to beat your sister to a 'bloody pulp', then yes, you have anger issues and you need therapy beyond anything your sister needs.

Generally heroine addicts don't just leave needles in their purse/pockets etc, it takes more than a needle to get high on heroine. The only thing you can do is communicate, with her, and with the husband. There are a lot of free services you can reach out to who will have better advice for what's available in your area, but reality is, you think she's on heroine, you have no proof.

Talk to her.
Talk to the husband.

Alternately, you can realize there isn't shit you can really do and focus on your own life. You can't help an addict who doesn't want help. I watched my parents spend well over 100 grand trying to "fix" my sister because she was meth addicted and it wasn't until years later when she finally wanted to clean herself up that anything worked.

You have jumped to so many conclusions here. You have absolutely no idea if your sister is a heroin addict or not. You're basing all of your anger and frustration on the fact that your mom said she saw a syringe and that your sister doesn't have a job. In this economy, many people are desperate for money and yet unable to find steady work. That doesn't automatically scream drug abuse to me. Don't you think you should actually talk to your sister about this first? Perhaps ask for an explanation POLITELY? I mean jesus, you're talking about taking this woman's child away when you haven't the first idea of what's really going on.

I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your sister, but you or someone close to your family needs to approach her about it. Calmly, and with compassion, not anger. I guarantee you that if you go into this all guns blazing like you are on here, it will end very badly for everyone involved whether or not a drug addiction exists here. I know you're in shock, but you need to take a step back from the situation and look at it from a few more angles. I also advise talking to a counselor before you do anything. Good luck.

you guys bring up a lot of good and shitty points

yes, you need to find out FOR SURE what she's on

but telling someone they need help when you're an addict is not going to fucking work. professional help works only if the addict chooses that.

now as said earlier, professional advice for how you should handle things is a great idea.

folks, i think someone who has lived with her for ages knows a thing or two about what she is like. She has had drug problems in the past, as my mom verified. My sister came to my mom and asked for some help after admitting a drug problem. She didnt ask any questions and just had her enrolled into a program, Whatever it was, she quit during pregnancy it seemed.

By all means im not jumping the gun too much here. Im not telling cops to search her house for drugs that are or arent there, but their debt and stupidity with money, wearing clothing previously not normally worn, and avoidance of confrontation when calny asked when the syringe dropped seems to point the finger a little, right? I dont mean to be cocky in any way, but i still want an answer as to ANY other purpose of carrying a syringe?

send your mom over there.. tell them she needed a break from taking care of dad and you would take care of him for the next few days while she gets to know her grandson. or tell them you got in a fight with your mom and needed a place to crash.

either one of you can observe their activities to see if it really adds up and shes really chasing the dragon.

The problem is this: you already have your mind made up that this is absolutely 100% all it could be and nothing else, so there's nothing I or anyone else can say that will make you think differently. All we can say is that you need to speak to a counselor first and then you need to talk to your sister calmly, rationally, and compassionately.

jumping to conclusions, although she's acting sketchy from what you describe.

needles are used for lots of other things, not just drugs.
