Slingshot that shoots arrows

Hey everyone Sanjay is letting me post this page for all of you to check out. He has ordered one and I am working on his slingbow as we speak.

This is a slingshot I invented for bowfishing, and it shoots full length arrows.

The website is at http://www.falcon-archery.webs.com

You also have to see some video clips of us bowfishing

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Thanks Sanjay

I think a "slingshot that shoots arrows" would be called a "bow" or a "crossbow".

Wow! And I thought I had seen all the slingshots that are available.

Very good design. The only question I have: Why is the fork so wide? I have tested this extensively, and a wide fork does reduce the power. The vectors are not parallel, that's why. Is there a mechanical reason for the wide fork?

Isn't the width of the fork proportional to how far you have to draw the tubes to generate equivalent force? So, if two slingshots (one narrow and one wide) were drawn back to shoot arrows, you could pull the wide fork tube back a smaller distance than the narrow one?

For the full stretch of the rubber yes you are correct, but a wider fork means less forward force on the arrow since you multiply by the cosine.

yeah
wider fork = more wasted sideways force
i can kinda see how it might be harder to use if the fork was narrow though

I was daydreaming about how to make explosive shot for slingshots but it was beyond my reach. I found a video of some guy packing match heads between hex nuts which seemed doable...

We have people who bow fish in Minnesota. It's not super popular but I personally know 2-3 guys that do it.

Edit: It's way more exciting than regular fishing.

It's definitely more aggressive than regular fishing. Normally I prefer to relax with my feet up while killing stuff.
