From another thread:

Consumer Reports tested condoms to see how they would hold up during use.
The top 7 all scored the same and are listed them alphabetically.

The Top Condoms:
1. Durex Extra Sensitive Lubricated
2. Durex Performax Lubricated
3. LifeStyles Classic Collection Ultra Sensitive Lubricated
4. TheyFit Lubricated
5. Trojan Extended Pleasure Climax Control
6. Trojan Non-lubricated
7. Trojan Ultra Pleasure Spermicidal

The Planned Parenthood condoms came in at the bottom of the list. (hey, if you get knocked up then they'll make money on the abortion.)
"We tested 120 samples of each model except the Planned Parenthood Honeydew, whose initial failure merited a retest of a larger sample of 500."
yikes. hope you're not using those.

What surprised me, "The report discourages use of Spermicidal Condoms partly because they 'have a shorter shelf life, and may cause urinary-tract infections in young women.'"
I had always been told to get the spermicidal ones to cut down the failure rate.

a good read on the norplant. I got mine put in over a year ago.
it is really cost effective when you look at the long term effects.

In addition, there is some evidence to suggest that nonoxynol-9 (spermicide most used) increases the likelihood of blood-blood contact in the case of a break due to vaginal lining iritation, thus increasing the chance of blood-born STD transmission.

interesting. I used spermicide even though we weren't using condoms.
it would be nice if they warned you about these things on the box.

Yeah, it is an area under current study. The FDA put out a brief on it either last year or the year before.

I have a question about the pill but didn't want to make a new thread so; two weeks ago I went to the doctor because I had a urinary tract infection (UTI) she put me on antibiotics for three days but told me to wait two weeks before having unprotected sex.

Now my question is, is it okay to not use a condom the next time I have sex, since its been two weeks, or should I wait a month? and do all antibiotics negate the pill?

Thank you soo much

this thread delivers, you certainly know what your talking about, thanks man

my girlfriend and i have been looking for new methods of birth controll for her, although we still use condoms, double the protection = good . she started off on the pill a few years ago, and she always forgot to take them, she then turned to the shot, which she got once every 3 mnoths, although i like...uh...bigger women, the shot made her actually gain more weight, almsot a little to much, but thats fine, and now we are waiting for her time of the month to regulate and after it does she will be trying the patch. i am going to re-read your post and read up on it some more, thank you

Actually double check with your doctor. The antibiotic that treats UTI shouldn't mess with the birth control pill. It's only certain types of antibiotics that do, and that is not one of them.

I have a question: ever since I've started on the Pill (one year now), i've been really moody. As a result, I've changed my perscription once already but lately I've been finding myself crying and sulking at least twice a month. That may not seem like a big deal but before I never cried this much before I went on it. It won't even be over major things, I'll hit my head on a door or a co-worker will do something trivial to piss me off. Even my little bro poking me gets me ready to open the flood gates. My doctor has me on Cyclen but I'm wondering if the patch might be another option to revert me back to my old self?

I believe the ring and the patch have smaller amounts of hormones, so those two might be good options for you. I recently switched to the ring and love it so far. I'm not getting any of the side effects I had with the pill, and don't have to worry about forgetting anything.

Don't have time to pick the thread apart at this time, so my apoligies if this question has been answered. Is there another effective form of male birth control other than the condom?

Thanks
