Choosing webhost

I need get a new host for a small forum I run. The main reason I need to switch is because my current host (1and1) limits the size of the MySQL database and I am going to run out. I had pretty much decided on HostGator.com but today when I went there the front page is really slow so that is kind of making me wonder. I notice that GoDaddy has a similar plan for the same price.

Basically, if you had to pick a webhost right now that cost between $15-30/month what would be the best?

Thanks!

Ok, HostGator.com just went down completely. That does not inspire confidence

edit: ok, it was down for like 3 seconds and now it is back and fast again. Still not good.

I'm happy with hostgator.

Been through m2o and 1and1. Don't ever host on 1and1. Ever.
GoDaddy blows ass for hosting.

I had 1and1 just to fuck around with. I'm paying $1.99 a month or something like that. The forum was started as an emergency response to another one shutting down, I had to use what was available even though it sucks ass. Now I have 107 users in 2 days and am already using 3% of my mysql database.

Why don't you like godaddy for hosting?

Godaddy got alot of shit recently for being the victim of a widescale hack and then covering up, I'd suggest staying away.

Godaddy was bad for speed. I had a client on there and it was a bitch to upload and download larger files. He had training movies on there and I had to compress the things down to near shitty levels just to make them load as soon as possible on the, what seemed like, capped server connections.

I'll put another up for Made2Own -- we've had our share of problems, but Mix and them usually get them fixed up pretty quickly.

Quick one here. So for this year, does anyone have a top 5 list of hosting providers that you trust?
