Same thing happening to me. Even though they're coming out with a bunch of new content, once you've played the game for 5 years you've pretty much seen it all.
.
Playing EVE semi-casually now, doubtful I'll resub for cata.

Yeah I don't know how many times I was plowing through Burning Crusade and was like "Man this Ulduar crap is getting old, who needs siege vehicles anyway?" Those airship battles are totally played out and Icecrown Citadel is just like Blackwing Lair with an ice theme am i right?

PTR 4.0 Patch is out. Usually the move from PTR to live is fairly short (relative to development time).

Cata can't really be that far away.

Siege vehicles are terrible. While it is new content, it isn't very good. Aiming them and pressing 1 or 2 buttons repeatedly is not good gameplay.

The only new game mechanics implemented are lol siege vehicles and phasing, neither of which hold much interest for me. Every expansion has been expanding the game vertically instead of horizontally. At level 60, you grind gear and eventually kill Kel'Thuzad. At level 70, you grind gear and eventually kill Kil'jaeden. At level 80, you grind gear and eventually kill LK. At level 85, you'll grind gear and eventually kill Deathwing.

So, yes, ICC is pretty much like BWL with an ice theme, a gimmick encounter, and slightly more complicated boss mechanics.

Siege vehicles are hilarious and a gimmick. It's a time-out from the exact sort of gameplay you profess to dislike so much. You should LOVE the break... Also, the same could be said about half the classes over the years. Targeting something and pressing 1 or 2 buttons is hardly more thought intensive.

You're wrong, there has been plenty of horizontal expansion, take a look at the UBRS, Zul'Gurub, Molten Core. Then take a look at Mag'theridon's Lair, Tempest Keep, BT and Sunwell. COMPLETELY different types of raid requirements and COMPLETELY different type of interaction from your raiders. It's expanded far more than "don't stand in the bad spot on the floor, dps, heal, win". Siege encounters, Airship Battles, all kinds of different dynamic encounters that require more coordination than at any point in WoW's sordid history. That's a hell of a lot of "horizontal" expansion if you ask me. Maybe you just didn't play back then, or maybe you just don't recall what it was REALLY like. Every time someone talks about "What WoW used to be" I want to punch a baby. And I like babies. It's like real life, "what used to be" and how you fondly remember it, doesn't always match up to the reality.

Your other argument is so stupid it's barely worth remarking on. Of COURSE you Level to X, Kill X, Gain X as Loot. That's the core for EVERY RPG. From Pen & Paper Dungeons and Dragons to...well, World of Warcraft and Aion and Warhammer Online and Lord of the Rings Online. That's the whole POINT. Did you think you were playing a fantasy themed FPS or something? I don't know if you missed the Memo but it's been pretty obvious from day 1 that this would be the case. You don't stop playing Mario just because you know you're eventually going to save the damn Princess. You don't stop playing Zelda because...well, you get the idea. Even FPS are just "point, shoot, respawn", some have even added RPG elements so you can level up, get new guns and kill the bad guys!

Maybe games in general just aren't for you.

What's a fair price for a 70 rogue? The toon is already on the account I play but I've never touched it because my friend wanted to eventually get back into WoW.

Now he wants to play the hunter I geared out (5.6gs) and... I want a rogue so... it makes sense to just take it over rather than do the 1-80 grind in its entirety.

But ignore all those complications. What should I offer to pay for a geared 70 rogue? I was thinking somewhere around 50 or 60. More? Less? let me know.

Gear has no value when the character is level 70 and you'll start replacing it after 72-73. But ya, $50 seems fair.

edit: Would you also have to buy a new account and transfer it? If that's that case just buy a new account and level your own, it's not that hard and you'll save yourself some money.

Getting from 1-60 is a joke, especially if you have even just gold to twink with. 60 to 70 is even ridiculously faster if you have any friends or its a second account. Should take a couple hours in Ramparts to 65, then go to nagrand and blow shit up for an evening, fly to netherstorm and do the violet tower chain, and be 70.

So really, $20 gets you your own copy of wow+tbc. Depending on if you watch TV or do other mundane shit you could do while you play, and what your time is worth, would determine price. I wouldn't pay more than $50. Add $30 to that if it has wotlk.

Of course it's a game... I didn't say it wasn't a game, I'm pretty sure the fact that it's a game was covered pretty well. I'm not trying to sell WoW, I'm pointing out that his argument is stupid.

Yeah the part I left out is that I've already assumed control of his account, this rogue was just sitting on this account along with an 80 warrior that I leveled, an 80 shaman that I leveled, and his hunter that he leveled but I spent a few weeks gearing out.

He has shown interest in getting back into the game, so I might just pick up vanilla+bc+wrath and get the hunter transferred for him and call it even.
