Sucking at Stuff?

I feel like no matter what I do, I'm always the worst person playing. Sometimes it's a board game, new or old. I know how to play and understand the rules, but I come in last no matter what.

Sometimes it's just being fatter than everyone else. I'm a size 10, but that's pretty big for a girl and it's depressing.

Sometimes it's playing a sport, where I seem to be the person with the worst score or the worst throw.

How do you handle it when you suck so much. It balances out for most people, because they're a lot better at things, but I'm really not "BEST" at ANYTHING. Sucks to be (below) average. Anyone else feel this way?

Being anything above average (or even bad) takes practice and time. Sounds like you're worried that you're only average or even bad at new things you're trying.

Of course you are, its your first time or at least firstish time doing them.

Stop judging yourself relative to other people. I've played sports (mostly hockey at the best level for my age at the time) all my life. When I picked up rock climbing, I was the worst in my group of friends and they barely played sports. I had no transferable skills from my younger years and my body time was completely wrong (all legs, no upper body). I've been climbing for 4 years now and my friends are still much better than me, even a friend who's been climbing for 2.5 years.

The one thing I realized during this is that I can't judge my skill and accomplishments based on their accomplishments. I'm a much better climber than they and I used to be. My goal is to be better than the last time I climbed, which doesn't happen every time. You can only judge yourself by yourself. You can never be the best because there is always someone better than you.

If you want to be better at playing a competitive game, go spend 20 minutes browsing the internet for basic strategies for specific games and employ them. Oh, you're going to play Risk again tonight? Go look up a few strategies and make them work. Just because you lose at a game doesn't mean you were the worst or below average. There's always an element of chance and there's always areas you can improve on. Think about your successes and mistakes and apply your resolve to your next game of anything.

Start making goals for yourself and tackle them one or two at a time. Don't focus on everything all at once.

being a size 10 is irrelevant for most areas requiring expertise, you need to really drop that excuse.

If you want to be better at board games, start doing research. Take strategies and test them.

If you don't want to be a size ten, work out and change your diet. But do something fun that puts you around other people; a running club or a bicycling club, or a group workout class. It'll make the time fly by, and I hope it will also help you realize that personality matters. Anyone I know would rather meet a size ten who's effervescent and interesting than a bitchy, stuck-up girl who's any smaller. Find in yourself attributes that make you feel awesome and focus on those, just like those people would.

Games are fun. Hang around with your friends and play. Remember the conversation, not the result. Foolioq is right about figuring out strategies -- you can pick up tips and change your approach, if you want. But the point is having fun and spending time together, not winning.

find something you enjoy doing. not your friends. not people on the internet. not something you think sounds cool or looks cool. something you truly enjoy. then practice. practice alone. become intimate with that subject. sure you can go on youtube and be bloated with information and find some little kid doing it better than anyone else. stop watching the videos. spend time and practice. get lost with yourself.

i used to watch all these guitar videos on youtube. all these child prodigies. how could i ever be better than them? then i learned that i can play anything i want and have the ability to improvise. sure they can play 1 or maybe 2 songs perfectly. but i can play that same song 15 different ways on 15 different days. they are stuck playing it only 1 way.

you know what i mean?
