I was on a server that had a mutator all the zombies were flesh pounds, its fucking scary.
A funny thing about flesh pounds, if you can get them surrounded by other zombies in a close space and then make em red, they'll kill all the other zombies around there with there arms lol. Also i been using the pump shotty but it sucks compared to the boom stick, i love the voice overs when you use it, its boom stick time and two barrels for you bastards haha.
Its fun blowing away like 5 zombies at once with one pull of the trigger.

There's a difference between "custom maps that kill the server" and "all custom maps kill the server." The second response I've heard of much more frequently from our community.

It takes a lot more work than you give it credit to design, build and optimize a map. I would not be suprised if the two tf2 maps you've mentioned took quite a while to build. Custom made textures, sounds and models? In the case of pac-man, ghosts modeled (if in hammer, I give them serious credit) and then mimiced on the ceiling? No 10 year old is going to find the hours spent developing those worth the time and energy. Stating that you didn't like them is one thing, insulting their creator and their work is completely different.

I'm on the other side though, playing the same maps over and over, for years, is more annoying than waiting 5 minutes to download a map. In TF2s case, they all have the same theme (farm, desert, etc.) and that's probably why I dislike TF2. You want quality custom maps? be prepared to download 40mb+ on the source engine. You want shitty custom maps? be prepared to play with missing textures ('black/purple checkerboards are so awesome guys!',) lack of lighting features and the creative genius of a solid block of wood. These are the maps that kill populations.

If you group all custom maps into this idea that they're all going to kill the server, you're never going to experience something amazing. I believe, the extensive customization of the HL engines, is what not only sets them apart from other engines (and games,) but is in fact the best part. So many maps and mods have been made through the tools given to us by their creators; some have even been absorbed and used by valve. I've never seen an easier way to work directly with a game, than through the engines and tools valve has developed. If KF's engine is anything like it, not willing to experience custom maps would be a waste.

KF is not a jump-in-and-play game, IMO. It takes a while to go from wave 1 to wave 8, and that's the shortest game-type I've played so far (being well over an hour.) I've usually been playing on 1-11 wave servers, and it takes almost two hours if your team takes it's time (and if you don't take your time from wave 5-6 onward, be prepared to die.) If you don't mind adding the 1-5 minutes to download a custom map, which is maybe a tenth of the total play time added on, you may be in for some serious suprise. The fastest wave I've ever played was the boss fight, and that's only because he can kill your entire squad quite quickly. Then again, before we died, we lasted a good ten minutes.

Just yesterday, myself and one other, had to duo multiple waves, including flesh pounders, and it ended up taking about 20 minutes per wave. This is primarily due to the fact that our team was all too willing to jump in and play.

The best times I've ever had playing CS, DoD, CS:S, DoD:S, Synergy, etc. were on custom maps. The worst times were playing the same maps repeatedly.

Anyway, anyone have any strategies for the patriarch? Fuck if I've used every weapon short of the flame thrower and he still kicks my ass. LAWs (right?) don't seem to do enough damage to stun him long enough to escape behind some obstruction. Hunting shotgun pisses him off much too fast. I don't know, the crossbow a good solution? Chainsaw (I don't really want to get too close.)

The only time we lasted a long time, was a 1/3 rockets, 1/3 shotties and a 1/3 chainsaws -- even then he kicked our ass pretty hard and pretty fast.

I usually only like playing on normal or hard, does he scale with that too?

ffff. It's horrible on farm, because you can't see him so well. He's fast too, he runs away much faster than I can chase.

INCREASE YOUR VOIP CODEC AUDIO QUALITY

I've set the servers to allow the higher quality audio codec (why they didnt allow this by default before, who knows...)

Anyways, we're now using the 96kbps audio codec instead of the 48. If you don't switch it you won't see a difference, but if you do go and turn it up in your options you will be able to use the high quality codec.

Server Port Change!

I've had to update the ports on all the servers to fix a stupid issue with Gamespy. The ports now all follow the XX07 pattern, starting with 7707. The first post and major post in the forum have been updated.

Is better quality what you mean? Will dampen game volume help clear up the inability to clearly hear voices?
