"all this money and effort didn't buy me a 4.0"... OUCH.

So who else has had the pleasure of being considered a huge failure by their parents?

Just got off the phone. Apparently, I've "let them down" because I couldn't get a finance internship for the summer. Its time for my parents to effectively cut their losses and stop supporting this "bottomless pit." Up until this point, the "results have been disappointing." Oh, and I still have one more semester of college to get through.

FYI, up to this point I have a 3.3 GPA in a Finance and Economics degree in one of the top 20 business undergrad programs in the country.

That sucks dude, but really, I wouldn't complain. Your parents have no obligation to pay for your tuition, housing, clothes, food, or whatever they were. Count yourself lucky you got it for all but one semester of college.

My mom was a self-made jewish businesswoman, started and ran her own IT business right out of college.

I talked to the internship coordinator at the place I worked last summer. Apparently they've had over 3000 applications for 92 spots and as a result cut off the minimum GPA at 3.4 for this year, no exceptions. Man, it fucking sucks to be a letdown.

My GPA is less than 2.0 out of 4.0, but I don't consider myself to be a failure in any sense of the word.

It hurts but ultimately you are the one who defines success, not anyone else. With one semester left your GPA won't really change much. Don't see why a 3.3 gpa is bad but who knows. Do they know that you work hard? Have they always been riding your ass since high school?

Listen man. A lot of people get in this situation when there's a disparity between your ability and what your parents expect out of you. Best thing I can say is....welcome to adulthood. Now the game is in your ballpark and you're going to have work out how you're going to keep going to school. It's going to be tough, but I think you'll grow up and end up learning and being grateful for it in the end. I've been independant from my parents for 4 years now after they pulled pretty much the same stuff and I think i'm 5x the man I was then. Actually I wasn't really a man yet, since I didn't know how to support myself or solve the basic problems of survivng and getting an education.

Take the initiative, secure loans, and be done with them for the last semester.

Did you make a thread congratulating yourself about how you got 3.3 in a top undergrad program? If you're in college to learn things, you've obviously succeeded and this dispute with your mom is really a factual disagreement, and she just happens to be wrong. If you're in college to get a pat on the back from your mom, you've obviously failed. But if that's really your motivation, then you deserved to fail right from the start.

LOL. Tell your parents that Wall Street has laid off over 50,000 people. Interns are being sent home, if they are hired at all and a recession is on.

Nobody is laying on interns thickly this summer.
