Completely the intention as well.

As for your wheels, how about a little inspiration?

Don't paint the wheel - paint the tire.

I took the saladspinners off my 94 Trans Am and painted them gloss black.

Just sanded everything down (started with something like 100 grit, perhaps even 60) and as I started getting to metal I went finer and finer on the sand paper. Probably finished with around 320 or so.

Did about 10 light coats of paint (Think I used that rustoleum stuff..) Couple or three coats of clear coat and they looked pretty darn good. Best salad spinners I'd ever seen. Used em that way for about 2 seasons. Paint was still looking great when I took them off and put on some Z06 style wheels.

I'd defiantly recommend lots of thin coats.

so if you paint the whole wheel how well does it stand up to when you get tires changed? I'm interested in painting some wheels but have always wondered if tire changing would mess up the paint at all.

a fair amount of manufacturers use painted wheels now, and yeah you can scratch them changing the tires

It depends heavily on the tech and the machine he's using. Older machines will scratch steelies with OEM powdercoat much less polished wheels.. Newer ones with plastic guides won't even harm a painted one.

Fair?? Try "damn near EVERY wheel out there..."

That number's GOT to be in the 99% range...
