They still get dirty and all carbon-coated. The best thing for performance is to do new copper plugs every 10k. Granted that's a pain in the ass.

this. in my rx8 it has $120 iridium plugs that carbon and foul up with ash or oil ( rotaries inject oil like a two stroke ) every 20K or so. You can't clean them ( easily ) because the tip is so fragile. I just run $5 copper plugs and swap them out every 5-10K. There are TONS of people cooking coils because the resistance gets so high with the fouled up iridium's. My original coils went over 85K before I replaced them proactively.

Sounds like they aren't too hard to get on a rotary. I wouldn't know.

All mine are right on top at a slight angle like a DOHC honda. The hardest part is removing the coil packs because they have two screws a piece

The change procedure is remove driver's side tire and then remove the access cover and then have a spark plug socket, a u-joint, and a 18" extension. Little more work than the honda

Can you use plugs with a regular electrode in the Rx-8s? My FC uses the marine style electrodes and the proper NGK plugs are fairly expensive. Running two stroke fouls them up pretty quickly.

The stock plugs look like this.

NGK BUR9EQP and BUR7EQP are like 8 bucks each last time I checked at advance auto parts. The rx8 plugs are the same heat range just designed so they last longer. Get the cheap plugs and swap them every 7.5k to 10k and the coils should last longer.

I'm guessing you can't gap those

Those appear to have a ground strap that can be set, though a normal Autozone gapping tool may not be fit to the task. The NGK's my FD called for could not be gapped, and were similar to the silly Brisk units in the original post. Looks like the RX-8 plugs may be slightly better as they have a much finer electrode.

I obeyed the same trick as solareon, using new copper plugs with every second oil change. They were cheap and on the RX-7 fairly easy to change.

Wow that electrode is shielded all to hell.... Do they suffer from blowout or something? I'd never put a plug like that into my car. I don't even like the dual or worse yet quad tipped ones. Too much shit in the way.

When the mix contains a bunch of oil and fuel and then some air shit gets in them pretty quick. The whole plug surface is not exposed to the chamber though. Just a smaller hole
