PS3 Deck Replacement...

So the new laser + deck arrived for this PS3. I followed these directions to tear it down, then just sort of used common sense for the deck replacement

http://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-gam...ual-video.html

(these instructions are for laser replacement only)

Reassembled it, and try to put a disc in, it just clicks four times and refuses to allow me to insert the disc.

Any ideas?

After tearing it all apart again, I noticed that the ribbon cable leading from the deck (the one thats hard wired into the deck) was getting crushed by the moving part of the deck. But I don't think this should affect loading of the disc...

Also, step 9 of my guide says theres a cable connecting the two halves of the disc drive... I don't have this cable...

Fixed. It was the ribbon cable that was binding up and stopping the laser from moving fully forwards + backwards

Do you buy any consoles you don't have to take apart first?

I did it on mine a few months ago. Cost me half of what Sony wanted, plus I kept all my own equipment. I work in a field where I spend my time working with electronics, so it didn't really bother me at all to do it.

I sold my PS3 (that I paid full price for a couple of years ago, did not buy it broken) to my friend, two weeks later it would not read any discs.

It was either this, or refund his money.

But yeah I did get my 360 for 30 bucks, spent $12 on bolts and nuts and washers, and another ~$60 on cables and controllers. I'm not ashamed, I'm proud that I'm able to take discarded junk of some rich spoiled brat and make it into a perfectly functioning console.

Yeah Sony wanted $150.

I found this WAY easier than the 360, i mean yes it's a totally different procedure but just cracking it open was much more painless. and the results aer much better. My 360 looks all haggard and a bunch of the snaps/clips are fucked up, but the PS3 looks brand new.
